  • Iranian Ppl & ''Non Iranian Names''

I don't undrestand why some of the iranian ppl put arabic or.. on their children ???!!!

Iranian names are womnderful .The most part of them are based on personalities and heroes of ancient Iran/Persia.

The names come from both real people and those in literature, folklore, legends and mythology.

Based on adjectives. Adjectives which define sweetness, precious, delicate, and beauty are usually given to girls; whereas those which define strength, and bravery are usually given to boys.

The adjectives which define joy, greatness, glory, and nobility are given to both girls and boys.

Based on beautiful things, whether it is from nature (i.e. sun) or an object (i.e. gold).

Based on the beauty of the moon and flowers. The moon is admired for its mysterious beauty and light and is used in naming girls. The flower is admired for its beauty and is used in naming girls also.

These names have the stems Mah/MAh (moon) and Gol (flower). Also, many girls are named after a particular flower, or plant.

I am not agree with Arabic-based name, or english-based name !

I am agree with Real Iranian names and :

    Zorastrian names

    Kurdish names

    Azarbaijani names

We have lots beutiful names in our culture like :Abtin , Afshin , Ardalan , Bardia ,etc ... and also for girls.Afsaneh , Atoosa , Ava , Delaram , etc ...

Please ,Just think about it ! Is important keep our culture far away from the other non sense names !!!

Ready to read your opinions .

Siamak, are you saying that you hate the names of: Mohammad, Ali, Hussain, Hassan, Reza va....... ????? These might be Arabic names, but they are Islamic names like other relgions that have their own names as you said zarostrian names suck as: Babak, Zartosht, Korush vo ......

In my opinion all the persian names are nice names, as a matter fact, I think these names are so cute too: Sakineh, Saghar, Halimeh, Salimeh, Roghayeh, Asghar, Akbar, Taghi, Naghi, Abbass

I just say i don't like arabic names or english names or etc ...

Lots ppl put those names on their kids without knowing the real sense !!!

For example your name (Arman) is really nice name !! you are a muslim but you have an iranian name ! this is good and wonderful !

Zorastrian names are religious names as you said but Zorastrian names came from My Culture, from My Country ! is not from the other side of the world,of course i agree with Zorastrian names !

Iranian ppl accepted to be muslim but i don't think we should forget our culture because of the religion which was forced to iranian ppl.

Always the first is Iran and then religion.

Thank you Arman jan for reading me and respondin' me :=) .

You know, I hadn’t really thought about this too much. My real name, Reza, is one that my dad gave me. I figured out years ago that it’s a manner of name that English speakers find frustrating to pronounce. So, I no longer hold anyone to any standards on it’s pronunciation. Although, the trade off was that instead of being frustrated by mispronounced versions, I now have to deal with folks who wish to say it correctly. Simply because they feel that it should be pronounced correctly. I must admit that I don’t say it correctly because I’ve gone by my mothers pronunciation. Which she has told me is incorrect. I picked up the nickname George in high school. It’s just easier for the people who are worried about name pronunciations. In fact, some of the student body had been confused when ever I was called by my real name. Having gotten used to the nickname. Some of the student body might still know me by George.

        What's up?

As Shakespeare put it: "What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet."...Everyone has a preference of their own & thats ok with me. Personally I would choose a persian name!!!

With Islamic brain-washing of the past 3 decades, one thing that the IRI can not prevail is people's taste and preference when it comes to naming their children. More and more Iranian couples choose Persian names over Islamic names for their children despite the Islamic influence. And despite the IRI's crack down on non-Arabic names in the past. More people are now choosing Persian, Turkish, Kurdish, or other names--but no more Arabic names. That is a clear show of protest and people favoring their heritatge over religion especially when it comes to their most prized and precious possessions. So there's hope.

It really depends, some people have Persian names, some have Arabic/Islamic My name is Arabic, but my sister's is Persian, But for me I am going to choose Persian names for my kids, but I know some people who also want to give at least one of their kids an Islamic/Arabic name. BTW I think English first named combined with Persian last names just sound funny
