
A prominent Italian lawmaker has said that Iran's capacity should be used to establish peace and stability in the Middle East region.
During his meeting with the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Saeed Jalili, Umberto Ranieri described Iran as a key regional player which can help establish peace and stability in the region.
Ranieri, who is the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Italian Parliament, voiced Italy's support for Iran's inalienable right to 'develop a peaceful nuclear technology', IRNA reported.
The Iranian chief nuclear negotiator, for his part, underlined Iran's vast potentials for the expansion of ties with European countries.
Jalili added that the international community has acknowledged the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear activities and went on to call for all-out efforts against the proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction, and drug trafficking.
He referred to the Islamic Republic's strategic location in the Middle East and said that Iran has so far fulfilled its regional responsibilities particularly in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Italian MP is on an official visit to Tehran to discuss issues of bilateral interest.
