Arabic invasion?

When it comes to the arabic invasion of Persia what are your opinions?

Cause I know some iranians who sais that we have ourselves to blame to a degree cause the zoroastrian priests at that time misused their power, many iranians were discontent, so they kind of welcomed the arabs before they new what they were up to...

I've herd other versions as well..what is your take?

Personally I believe that version to be a load of BS. I mean, sure the Zoroastrian priest had misused their powers, but surely not like the mullahs and Arab bastards. THey killed so many Iranians when they invaded. They forced IRanians to convert or pay ridiculous taxes. THey burnt down the Iranian capital at Cteisphone, took the huge Iranian rug that was jewel encrusted and burnt it. The Arabs stole and raped Iranian women. They forced Iranians to speak Arabic for 200 years, we still do in a way (up 15% of Farsi is Arabic, higher in southern dialects). We pray like Arabs. We dress like Arabs. We write like Arabs, the Iranian scriptwhcih we love so much is Arabic. Sure we added a letter or two, but it is still based off the Arabic system. We even worship Arabs. Why are Sayyeds on the top of Iranian socio-political structure? They are not even Iranians. At the end of the Shahname, Ferdowsi predicts that Iranians will come to speak and live the customs of their Arab conquerers. Shamefully I say he was right. I do not consider anyone who worships and acts like an Arab and Iranian, even if they are born in Iran.

I do agree with what you wrote..the arabs forced iranians to speak arabic with threaths and it took a long time for us to regain our language.
Some arabs even co-operated with us to through out the invadors, they were a bunch of barbaric bastards....

Yes. Now what I'm concerned about is Iran becoming Iranian again. The Arabian invasion was a terrible chapter in Iranian history, albeit a bygone era we cannot change. But we can change Iran today and it saddens me that Iranians continue to live in the traditions of their oppressors, even today. Yes our problems now don't have so much to do with the arabs, but the hatred is still their for some people.
But i get annoyed when some people say that historical persian people are arabs like Omar Khayyam for example....

Actually 80% of "Islamic" or "Arab" art, and culture is actually Iranian. Since they wrote their discoveries in Arabic (Iranians were forced to writein Arabic for 200 years) they are put under the Arab title. This really pisses me off. It is amazing, most of these "arab" mathematicians, like Khayyam, al-Khwarizemi, al-Kashani, al-biruni, al-farabi, ar-razi, ibna sina, and so on, were actually Iranians. On top of that Iran produces more carpets than the rest of the world combined, and has more poets and poetry than the rest of the world combined. Yet look at the current state of Iran. All thanks to Islam. Absolutely amazing.

Culture

Here is a question, what do u guys think about our language and culture?

Iranian went through 3 phases: Old Iranian, Pahlavi (middle Iranian), Farsi (modern Persian). The only thing is that Farsi isn't really completely Iranian. After the Arab invasion Iranians were forced to speak Arabic for 200 years. Hence we write in the Arab script. Farsi has anywhere from 10-20% Arabic. Even the word Farsi is arabic. Parsi means persian, do we call ourselves -Fersians-, NO. But the arabs couldnot pronounce the PEH so they changed it to F. Most ppls surnames are also derived from Arabic.

Our religion, shiitism is Arabic. Although we try to put an Iranian spin on it by saying Shiites are the Iranian version of Islam, ppl must realize that it was Ali and Hussein, Arabs, who first created the branch. Shiite tribalmen from southern Iraq converted Iranians by raping and killing many. Also shiitism requires bloodline descendance for legitimacy. In other words in our IRANIAN religion u have to be descendant from an ARAB bloodline going back to Mohammad to gain prominence!!

Not only is Islam Arabic but it is so supressive that it has made our traditional clothing similar in some respects to that of the Arabs. Now Iranians may not wear the long white tunics and headress of the Arab, but many still where turbans in the religious business, and robes. Women are also required to wear the Hejab, as many do. This has stifled Iran's rich heritage.

Other cultural adaptations of the Arabs have been forced onto the Iranians. For instance, Iranian art has been crushed. Iran is a land with a wealth of artists, since the time of the caveman. It has more carpets and poets than the rest of the world combined. Even through Islamic and Arab oppression some of Iran's talent has shined through. Yet so much of it has been stifled. Islam does not allow for the drawing of animals or humans. Many of poets like Khayyam and Rumi were criticized during their day for expressing themselves.

What do u guys think of all of this? I mean I am not against Iranian culture taking on aspects of other cultures, but only if its in the right way. By consciously integrating what we like, so as to enrich our culture. Not have it shoved down our throats so as to destroy our culture and replace it. To an extent we have shoved it down our own throats, though, by accepting it.

I mean it's natural that cultures and languages mix, no matter how it happened, because in that era (When the arabs invaded Persia) they were on their trip to invade more countries and it was the way the world worked at that time....

But u see, there is where Iranians are lacking. All the Iranians I talk to adopt a similar attitude, 'who cares, it happened like a thousand years ago, its all stupid,' .etc. Yeah well why do u think Iran is in such a piece of Sh*t state today?

I know, I know, it is old and I certainly am not calling for a crusade or something stupid like that. But we dont live in a space-time vaccum, what happened in the past, we are living out the legacy of it now. And I know cultures interact and mix. English is mainly based on Anglo-Saxxon, and has borrowed words from French, German, Greek, and Hebrew among other languages. This has enriched English. Farsi on the other hand has been replaced, to large extent with Arabic words, when the Arabs invaded Iran. THe Arabs forced all Iranians to speak Arabic or have their tongues cut out. Its structure has become more barren, not as it used to be. Iranians have now live out so many Arab cultural traits that had been forced onto them. Now I dont hate Arabs for what their ancestors did, but what we can do is change what is happening to us now and determine our own future.

Otherwise that is fine, but why call ourselves Iranians if we don't even resemble the culture that our fore-fathers brought?????
