Known as the Persian Beauty, Sara Racey-Tabrizi is a successful and ambitious model and actress who defies stereotypes and is working hard to make it to the top. A contestant on 'America's Next Top Model' Sara has taken her career in good stride, having a sense of humor and working hard in an unforgiving and competitive industry. We had a chance to chat with this Persian Beauty recently:

http://www.persianmirror.com/Images/Articles/938/sararaceytabrizi3.jpg

Sara Racey-Tabrizi: Well, I am half Persian from my father’s side and my mother is American (Nebraska!) My mother lived in Iran for two years before and during the revolution in 1980 and both she and my father escaped and came to L.A., where I was born. I eventually grew up in Seattle, Washington with my mom and from there, went to school, graduated from college and came to New York!

PM: What are the origins of your name?

SR: Well, Tabrizi is my last name and it originates from the city of Tabriz in northern Iran where my family was carpet makers (my grandfather particularly). My full name is Sara Louise Talebzadeh Tabrizi.

PM: When did you decide you want to be a model and why?

SR: I decided I wanted to model as far as I can remember actually, lol. I was about eight or nine years old and would flip through all the big fashion magazines as a little girl and rip out all the ads of my favorite models and tape them up all over my walls. This industry has always been such a fascinating world to me…even to this day!

PM: What was your first assignment like?

SR: Gosh, my first assignment. I have to dig deep here. Well, if I remember correctly, it was a runway show in Seattle where I had to get in front of hundreds of people and walk. I don’t recall it being a pretty sight! I was a little nervous and probably looked ridiculous, but it’s nice to see how far I’ve come since then.

PM: Is it difficult to model in a culture where everyone is supposed to be a doctor or an engineer?

SR: Oh my gosh! You understand!!! Lol. Very hard. I might have it a little easier because my mother raised me and I would visit my father for the summers but it is hard. To this day, well, actually, just a few days ago when I spoke with my dad, I was once again reminded that this is the wrong industry! “Go get a nine to five job, Sara… get master’s degree and do regular job people can be proud of”. That’s my father. If you remember when I was on Top Model, my biggest hurdle was getting past the guilt my father put on for choosing this profession.

PM: Tell us about some of the most exciting shoots you have done.

SR: America’s Next Top Model, I would have to say, really set the stage for some of the craziest shoots I think most any model has ever done or want to do! Of course, television and ratings are all involved so hanging us 100 feet in the air with a harness to hold us up is something that not too many models can say they’ve done. Or, being immersed in salt water and trying to look sexy wasn’t the best either, but it was sure exciting! Other than that, after the show, I’ve kept the modeling pretty calm…print, runway, t.v.

PM: Who do you admire and why?

SR: Well, I admire many people. I admire our soldiers and their bravery and I admire my mother. She is my rock and there is no other person, celebrity, or anyone I’ve ever met who had endured, who loves, and has experienced more than my own mother. She is the reason I am where I am today.

PM: What words of advice do you have for readers out there who are considering your profession?

SR: Grow some tough skin! Really, boy oh boy, this industry is quite intense and sometimes too crazy. Most of my fans are young girls who want to get into this and ask me questions and what I tell them or anyone is to finish school first. It’s so important. Modeling doesn’t last forever unless you look pretty hot as 90 year old runway model! But finish school and have an excellent support system behind you. There are so many weird false people out here where they take advantage of naïve models/actors who are looking for their “big break”. So have a good family support system or just a strong and healthy outlook on this profession. DON’T TAKE ANYTHING PERSONAL!

PM: Have you been to Iran?

SR: Darn it! No, not yet. My father is begging me to come visit my grandmother but no, I have not yet been to Iran. I would love to, just hearing my mother’s stories about how beautiful it is makes me anxious to go.

PM: What is your next project?

SR: I just finished a celebrity “extra” part in the T.V. show Six Degress, and I shot a Russian diamond ad that will be all over Moscow, Russia and here in NYC. I’m still working hard, and trying to make it higher and higher to the top!

PM: Desert Island Three things. What will you take?

SR: My future boyfriend so I have someone to yell at, my bikini, and, my cell phone so hopefully I can get off the darn island at some point!

Born In: Glendale, California

Favorite Color: Red

Favorite City: New York

Favorite Dish: Anything I can eat with my hands and a fork!

Languages: Just English…a little bit of Spanish…going to learn Farsi!

Currently Reading: All of Dan Brown’s books
