Ever held a fiesta that turned out to be flat? The only way to have a celebration and not flunk after five minutes is to follow these steps:
Steps
Create a guest list of festive-minded people, but not inclined to drink too much alcohol. We don't want drunk driving.
When setting up, make people move around. Put the refreshments on one side of the room and the chairs on the other.
To make people stand together and talk, put out less chairs than there are people. People can't mingle if they are sitting.
Remember to put enough tables or an end table near the chairs so that people can put their plates down.
During the party, be sure you get a chance to talk to everyone there. You invite people to your house to talk to them, not to make them wait.
Unless it is a dinner party, be sure that the snacks are small. Brownies, fruit, and chips and dips are a good idea. Cake, large meats, and pasta are too large to nibble and snack on.
Always remember the drinks!! Alcohol is a given, but make sure to get non-alcoholic drinks, like fruit punch. A nice blend is a fruity drink, like cranberry juice, with ginger ale or a lemon-lime soda.
The music should be lively and not so loud that people can't hear one another. On the other hand, it shouldn't be so soft that it can't be heard and doesn't help create the party mood.
Tips
Remember to put fragile things away, like vases, heirlooms, and anything made of glass.
Play music and make room for a dance floor.
Put away anything valuable to avoid creating temptation for anyone.
If you haven't got a lot of money for nibbles and drinks, ask your friends to bring along a plate of something to share & to contribute some drinks. This will also ensure a variety of food that everyone likes.
Warnings
Don't crank up the music too loud. If neighbors call the cops, then it's not so fun anymore.
Call a cab for anyone who appears drunk and insists on driving their car.
