Ditch that old "musty food, smoke-and-mold in your apartment" scent. Eau de toilette!
Steps
Shower. That means washing your hair, too. Greasy hair smells anything but fresh. Nothing will label you dirty faster than that. If you have strong body odor, then twice or even thrice a day is rigeur.
Deodorant. It needs to be an anti-perspirant as well as a deodorant. Anti-perspirants prevent sweating, while deodorant neutralizes your body odor.
It's a two step process: Neutralize the odor, and replace the odor with a more pleasant smell.
Brush your teeth at least three times a day, use floss religiously, and a tongue scraper. Follow up with Listerine for extra protection. Chew mint-flavored gum between brushings. Go to the dentist twice a year religiously to keep the teeth in optimal condition.
Shave the armpit hair regularly and keep the armpits clear always.
Wear socks. Sweaty feet trapped inside a shoe is a lethal combination. When at home, wear flip-flops or something that opens your feet to the air but doesn't let them touch the floor. Airing out your feet is important.
A touch of cologne/perfume never killed anyone. Just don't be buying the cheap drug store stuff--no Charlie, Jovan Musk, Old Spice GARBAGE. Splurge a little and get something Kenneth Cole, Lauren, Vera Wang, Davidoff, Calvin Klein, Estee Lauder, or Escada to name a few more popular brands.
Wear clean clothes once, then discard them in the laundry basket. Wearing them several times defeats the purpose of taking baths and wearing perfumes, deodorants, etc. Reduce the number of 'dry clean only' clothes in the wardrobe -- it is impractical and costly to dry clean clothes after every wear.
If you can smell your shoes, so can everybody else. Never wear the same pair of shoes the whole day and definitely rotate them every day. If they smell, throw them away and buy a couple of new pairs. Use the odor-absorbing baking soda based foot sprays.
Use talcum powder with odor-absorbing baking soda immediately after taking a bath wherever there are major sweat glands, i.e., back, groin area, underneath the breasts, the back of your knees, etc.
If you have body odor problems, avoid garlic, onion, cumin, fenugreek, and anything else that smells. Your sweat glands will ooze sweat combined with these food smells - YUCK!
When cutting garlic or onion, rinse with tomato or lemon juice to neutralize the odor. Simple soap and water does not cut it.
If you have body odor problems, change your sheets at least twice or thrice a week, and pre-wash and wash them in extremely hot water to get rid of the odor.
Tips
If in doubt, sniff your armpits.
If you're a woman, use feminine wipes to clean up after your period. It helps you feel a whole lot fresher.
Warnings
You know if you're dirty and smell weird. You're just in denial. Do something about it.
Poor hygiene can lead to health problems! (Dental, skin, hair, feet...the list goes on.) Take care of your body so your body can take care of you.
