The president of the United Nations Security Council, Mihnea Motoc, is responsible for the cancellation of the national team's participation in the LG Cup, as a result FRF risking a heavy fine

The footballing meetings of Romania and Iran seem to be cursed. After a friendly between the two teams was cancelled last month, with the persians being guilty after refusing to take the trip to Constanta, now the tables have turned.
Even though the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) had announced last week that the national team will travel to Tehran, to take part in the LG Cup, alonside Iran, Togo and Paraguay, this will not happen any more.
The reason?
The federation was given clear orders by the romanian goverment to cancel this trip.
The decision was taken as a reaction to a shocking statement made by the iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad: "Israel should be wiped off from the face of the earth".
As a result, the UN, through the voice of a romanian, Mihnea Motoc, who is the president of the Security Council of the respective organization, condemned the words of Ahmadi-Nejad.
Trying to stand out in the eyes of the United Nations, the goverment pressured FRF and asked them to abandon their plans to take part in the LG Cup.
Also, the minister of Foreign-Affairs, Mihai Razvan Ungureanu, said that "due to political complications, its not a good moment for the national football team to participate in the Iran tournament".
The federation ran by Mircea Sandu risks a drastic penalty because, last Thursday, Romania signed the contract with the organizers of the LG Cup.
According to the Chief of the International Relations of the iranian federation, Hassan Ghafari, in the respective contract it is mentioned that should one of the participating teams decides to pull out of the tournament, it should pay a considerable amount of money in damages.
