          MOVIE Saaghi OFFLINE

Hmmm...well, Ive never been too much of a fan of the horror genre, particularly because the movies that have scared me most throughout my life usually dont entirely fit the description either movies of another genre with horrific elements, or movies that just had concepts that scared the bageezes out of me while I was a kid.....like the Banshee in Darby OGill and the Little People, "The Nothing" from The Never Ending Story, and the troll in Ernest Scared Stupid XD.

The horror movies that I do like usually are more psychological and dont involve much or any gore because gore scares me in no way; it only grosses me out on ocassion. I think most of them would be more accurately considered "psychological thrillers" anyway, and the scare factor isnt always my reason for liking them.

here are some that I like:Sleepy HallowWhat Lies BeneathThe Exorsism of Emily Rose28 Days LaterSphere Darkness FallsThe RingThe Sixth Sensea few others I cant think of right now....You see, I mostly like scary movies that give me that icey chill down my spine and have a lasting effect, not those that just make me jump or flinch because of a natural reaction to quick and unexpected movements or loud noises and such. While those kinds of films can sometimes be enjoyable, they usually dont stick in my mind and are easy to pass off as just another horror movie. I like scary movies that make me feel unsafe afterwards, even for an extended period of time, rather than give me some thrills that only last the duration of the movie.

The concept is what counts most to me: Ive always been afraid of things like ghosts and gouls; things supernatural and "unknown"....so basically if its a movie about serial killers or something its not gonna scare me much....which now that I think of it seems kind of backwards since serial killers are real and the others as far as I know are not XD I guess its the "unknown" factor that is responsible for that

But anyway, Darkness Falls is up there, not because I thought the move itself was very scary, but because the idea behind it scares the shit out of me, as it is similar to my childhood and sometimes sill now reason for being afraid of the dark. Likewise, What Lies Beneath has made me ever uneasy when looking into a mirror or reflection at night, because it enhanced a fear of mine of seeing somone or something in a reflection/mirror that I cant otherwise see and that someone or something probably being a ghost :/. The concepts from those movies I stated in the beginning of this post scared me for similar reasons, but those fears, however, have faded with time :P

And like I said earlier, often times parts of movies that arent purely horror or thrillers have creeped me out or given me more chills than those from films that are. For instance, the Ringwraiths in LotR gave me quite a lot of chills especially when I first saw the fellowship, and I think it was partially because the whole black-cloaked, faceless, hooded thing was frightening to me as a child, and just because Peter Jackson really knows horror. Also, a particular scene involving Frank the bunny in Donnie Darko gives me intense chills every time I watch it especailly with a good audio system, because its the sound that really does it. Some scenes in Pans Labyrinth were pretty creepy as well in my oppinion, especially the one with the "Pale Man". I often enjoy such moments of fright more in these kinds of films because its less expected, as the sole purpose of the film is not to try to scare you like the majority or horror films; its just a part of the much more expansive range of emotions the films tries to produce in the audience.

Lately though Ive had trouble finding movies that actually scare me...particularly since most new horror movie Ive seen have either been way overhyped, sucky, gorefests, or all of the above like Silent Hill >.> It might also be partially because none of them really build on pre-existing fears of mine, or instill new ones.

However, I am really looking forward to the US release of The OrphanageEl Orfanato, because Ive heard from good sources that its incredibly scary...and in the way that I like o:

Oh, and as far as cheezy B rate horror movies go, I have to say Dead Alive Braindead, and Army of Darkness are my favorite cant say I like the first two Evil Dead movies though :P

and I will end my rant here >.>
