Iran coach Amir Ghaleenoiee has called up as many as 11 overseas based players for the June 21th friendly against Qatar in Azadi.

The call-up of players like Fereydoun Zandi (Apollon) and Mehdi Mahdavikia (HSV Hamburg) has left no one in doubt about the importance of this match in the run-up to the July 7-29 AFC Asian Cup 2007™ for which Team Melli have been slotted with China, Uzbekistan and co-hosts Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.

Though Ghaleenoiee refused to identify all the players, he stressed that Zandi, out of favour after the FIFA World Cup last year, was in the squad while Mahdavikia confirmed his availability after Hamburg agreed to release him following a request by the Iran Football Federation.

Ghaleenoiee said he would pick 22 players out of a maximum 30 after a training camp.

Qatar, in Group B for the AFC Asian Cup 2007 ™ with co-hosts Vietnam, Japan and UAE, will be looking to avenge their defeat to Iran the last time they met in 2004 in the qualifying rounds for the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Are Qatar and Mexico suitable friendly games for Iran's preparation for Asian Cup?

Vahid Hashemian: European countries have to play Euro Cup Qualifying games in early June so arranging a friendly game against an European side was almost impossible. Mexico has a very tough team and is a very good opponent for a friendly game. So yes I think these friendly games are good enough to prepare Iran for the Asian Cup.

تلويزيون قطر تركيب احتمالي تيم ملي فوتبال ايران در ديدارهاي جام ملت*هاي آسيا را عنوان كرد.



اين تلويزيون در بخش خبر ورزشي خود با اشاره به فراخوان 30 بازيكن به تيم ملي فوتبال ايران براي جام ملت*هاي آسيا، عنوان كرد: اگر بخواهيم تيم اصلي ايران را در جام ملت*هاي آسيا ببينيم، بايد به اين بازيكنان توجه داشته باشيم، وحيد طالب لو، محمد نصرتي، رحمان رضايي، فريدون زندي، سيدجلال حسيني، هادي عقيلي، حسين كعبي، مهدي مهدوي*كيا، وحيد هاشميان، جواد نكونام، آندرانيك تيموريان و رضا عنايتي.

مفسر ورزشي اين تلويزيون گفت: قلعه*نويي گام اول خود را براي اين ديدارها بدون دروازه بان اصلي خود، ابراهيم ميرزاپور برداشت.

وي اظهار داشت: ابراهيم ميرزاپور به دليل مصدوميت، جاي خود را به سه دروازه*بان جوان سپرده است.

وي ادامه داد: در فهرست دعوت شدگان به تيم ملي ايران قلعه نويي روي هيچكدام از بازيكنان اصلي تيم خود خط قرمز نكشيده است.
