  • Why not reform?

    Hi everyone,

Many people, speaking and assuming for all Iranians, say that reform isn't going to work to bring the right types of changes to Iran.

I'm personally agnostic on this issue. However, I am curious to see how strong the arguments against reform are, to see if they are convincing.

    Thanks

and pay no worship to the garish sun

Exactly. Finally someone asking to define reform.

          My personal definition...

          a) Target of reform: human rights.

          b) Source of reform:

I agree that ultra-conservatives aren't going to reform the laws. That's not my question. I'm asking if reform is a good way to go, something good to support. It contrasts with regime change, and contrasts with "failed reform", where reform really didn't have a chance to happen because ultra-conservatives were in power.

          So the question is:

Is reform a good idea at all?

Is there such a thing as a reformer that cares about human rights? Human rights being violated in such instances as stoning, execution, family, and hejab.

In principle, I don't see why such violations of human rights, almost all being laws, can't be reformed. But I might be wrong...
