For years, David Shayler has been a thorn in the flesh of Britain's intelligence establishment.
An MI5 officer for six years, he went to jail after leaking secret documents to the press.
In the last ten years he's been a novelist, a writer on security matters, and a political activist.
But his latest role may be the most talked about yet - that of mystic. Sally Gould went to meet him.

In his first broadcast interview on his spirituality, David Shayler has told More4 News:
"What I'd say to people is: Do I look mentally ill? Do I sound mentally ill?....The reason I'm putting out this message is because I am absolutely convinced - as convinced as I can be of anything in this world - that the universe is changing shape and humanity has to prepare for that, and that I am here to help teach people."
The well-known whistle-blower and ex-M15 officer, who claimed that the security services planned to assassinate Libyan leader Colonel Gadaffi, Mr Shayler believes spirituality to be the next step on what's been a long road of truth telling and that he's been following signs that eventually led him to a psychic, whom he believes channelled the spirit of Mary Magdalene, and who anointed him as the messiah.
The path from mainstream whistleblower, to 9/11 conspiracy theorist to self proclaimed messiah - could, arguably, be a wish come true for the secret services that once tried to gag him... But he believes that;
"Suddenly my whole life made sense, I felt a sense of peace, I suddenly realised why it had been how it had, ....Why I seem to get such a strange deal from the universe, when I seem to be trying to tell the truth about everything."
Mr Shayler says he now has the ability to change the weather and that his meditation stopped this summer's attempted bombings in London. It was also his channelling of the 'light' put Middlesbrough into the UEFA cup final.
Mr Shayler believes that there is an anagram of 'David Shayler, Righteous King' on the rod of Aaron, telling More4 News that:
"I looked at that, except the word in Hebrew for King was 'chav'. So at the moment I suddenly realised it goes David, S, H, A... I'm going though my name. And I'm thinking someone's trying to tell me, because this is the ineffable name of God, someone's trying to tell you you're God.
"And at the moment you suddenly realise that someone's trying to tell you you're God: David Shayler, righteous chav."
RENEGADE ex-spy David Shayler has claimed the football team he has supported since childhood made it to the biggest event in its history because he is the son of God.
Teesside-born Shayler says Middlesbrough fans really were witnessing miracles when striker Massimo Maccarone scored a last-gasp winner in the quarter and semi-finals of last year’s UEFA Cup . . . though Shayler’s divine powers were not enough to ensure their success in the final.
The infamous MI5 whistleblower also claims that his new found divine powers allowed him to stop this year’s attempted bombings in London and that he can also control the weather.
Shayler — who was jailed for leaking MI5 secrets including allegations the secret services had tried to assassinate Libyan Leader Colonel Gaddafi — has made the bizarre claims based on what he considers to be two pieces of evidence.
Firstly, he claims that during a visit to a psychic the spirit of Mary Magdalene came to him and anointed him the new Messiah.
He also claims that the Rod of Aaron, the staff said to have been carried by Moses’s brother, has an anagram written on it in Hebrew which says “David Shayler is God.”
The 41-year-old, who in recent years has been earning a living giving talks to conspiracy theorists about the September 11 attacks, claims the persecution he has suffered throughout his life also points to him being the son of God.
Speaking about the moment he was visited by Mary Magdelene’s spirit, he said: “Suddenly my whole life made sense.
“I felt a sense of peace. I suddenly realised why it had been how it had . . . why I seem to get such a strange deal from the universe, when I seem to be trying to tell the truth about everything.” Already conspiracy theorist websites have started to argue that American and British authorities have somehow brainwashed the former spy in an attempt to discredit him and prevent him from getting at the truth surrounding the attacks on the World Trade Center.
Shayler, who split from long-time girlfriend Annie Machon in January, made his outlandish claims on More 4 News.
