Vicente del Bosque has promised to continue the stylish brand of football employed by predecessor Luis Aragones after being officially unveiled as the new coach of the Spanish national team.
Del Bosque has been tasked with building on the country's Euro 2008 victory, signing a two-year deal which see him lead the team into the upcoming World Cup qualifiers for South Africa 2010.
The former Real Madrid coach has a tough job on his hands as he picks up the baton from Aragones, who helped Spain end a 44-year wait for a major trophy by leading them to European glory before taking over at Fenerbahce.
However, Del Bosque insists the challenge of living up to the achievements of Aragones will be a "privilege" rather than a chore.
"We're in one of Spanish football's best moments and the credit for that has to go to Luis Aragones and the group that was with him at Euro 2008," said Del Bosque.
"I'm aware that the bar has been set very high but this should be looked upon as a privilege. I am immensely privileged.
"My objective is to maintain the style of this group, to develop it and help it reach its potential because it is a winning group.
"The most important thing wasn't winning the European Championship but more how it was achieved, how they enjoyed it and how they showed that."
He added: "There are two ways to better this group: one is from the motivation which the players come with, and that is assured; the second is motivation from the work and the support of everyone, and I don't think it's going to be lacking."
However, the 57-year-old admitted he would make slight adjustments to the team and that none of the players from Austria and Switzerland were guaranteed a place in the side.
"The situation we're in now is an enviable one," he said. "We'll try to give (the group) our own personal touch. The main thing though is keeping and getting the best out of what has been done up until now.
"Every player starts from zero regarding the next call up, although of course I can't forget what the 23 players who were at Euro 2008 have achieved."
Del Bosque will now be in charge of taking a highly-confident Spain team to the World Cup in 2010, where the coach admitted his side would "aim for the maximum".
However, he warned against allowing complacency to creep in.
He said: "This is a winning group. They have won Euro 2008, but the majority of these players already knew what it was to win (European Championships) with the youth sides.
"Our objectives have to be to aim for the maximum. This does not mean being petulant or that we won't keep our feet on the ground and we shouldn't deviate far from the path we are currently on.
"My wish is to improve this Spain team in every sense. We should all be very proud of our football."
Spanish Football Federation president Angel Maria Villar added: "We all know Mr Del Bosque and we know his aptitudes and his extraordinary record both as a player and a coach.
"We were convinced after naming him at the meeting on the 15th that he will do extraordinarily well. I wish him all the luck in the world."
Del Bosque, who will be assisted in his new role by Antonio Grande and Jose Minano, will make his debut as national team coach in a friendly against Denmark on August 20.
Spain have been drawn in World Cup qualifying Group Five, alongside Turkey, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Armenia and Estonia.
Del Bosque's first competitive game at the Spain helm will be a World Cup qualifier against Bosnia-Herzegovina in Murcia on September 6.

New Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz said on Wednesday his first major priority was for the country to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
"Our absolute priority is the World Cup and we are going to concentrate on that objective," Queiroz, 55, told his first news conference since his appointment last week.
His first spell as Portugal coach from 1991 to 1993 ended with failure to qualify for the 1994 World Cup finals.
The former Manchester United assistant coach, who took the post left vacant by Brazilian Luiz Felipe Scolari, has signed a contract with the Portuguese Football Federation until 2012.
Queiroz plans to speak to predecessor Scolari to gather all useful information.
He said: "I'm sure we will find room for him to give me all his feelings regarding the strengths of the team over the last few years and also some things he would change if he could go back in time because that's always the case."
Scolari stepped down after Euro 2008 following 5-1/2 years in charge to join Premier League club Chelsea who will again be one of the main challengers to champions United for the title.
Queiroz refused to comment on the future of United's Cristiano Ronaldo: "We don't have to interfere (me and the Federation) in the relationships between our players and the clubs", he said.
His first game in charge will be a friendly against Faroe Islands next month ahead of their World Cup qualifying campaign against Sweden, Denmark, Hungary, Albania and Malta.
