  • Iran's first female physics professor

Alinush Terian is the first female Iranian professor in physics. She has an interesting history. She was born into an Armenian family in 1920 in Tehran. She studied physics in the University of Tehran.

Her professor was the famous Prof. Hesabi. After the Second World War she graduated and applied for a scholarship to go study in France, but it was rejected.

Allegedly because she was female and the public opinion at that time was that physics and science education should be exclusive to males. She went back to Iran and was appointed professor of physics at Tehran University.

Later she was appointed as the head of the newly established astrological research center in Tehran
