Ashkan Kamangari’s first work was “Zard, Sorkh, Arghavani” (Yellow, Red, Crimson) which has been a best-selling album in the field of Classical Persian Music in Iran. He is a member of the “Sayeh” ensemble and has performed in concerts at London and Paris.
Those who have heard Ashkan’s voice praise him for the hard work and perseverance that he has put into acquiring the techniques and subtleties of the classical Persian vocal music.
This in combination with a unique voice and an outstanding ability to perform a wide range of notes, heralds a very bright future for this young talented Persian singer
I had an Interview with Ashkan about his future plans.
What is your motivation to work as a professional Musician?
Ashkan Kamangari: Music has given me a better understanding of my inner self. It is also a powerful means of conveying feelings and thoughts.
MM: Who are your favorite Artists?
AK: Master Shajarian who –I believe- has revived Iranian Classical Music in the last few decades. Among the older Persian poets I like Molana (Rumi), Hafez, Sa’di and Attar. Fereydoon Moshiri and Hooshang Ebtehaj (“Sayeh”) are my favourite contemporary poets. The musician I like most is Abolhasan Saba who put up with a lot of difficulties to train many artists and kept Persian Classical music alive.
MM: What is the fondest memory of your professional life?
AK: Recording the choral of my new album “Midaanam keh Miayi” with my dear friends Sina Jahan Abadi and Amir Hossein Sam.
MM: What is your favorite place to perform?
AK: It doesn’t matter where one performs. The song which echoes the beauty of eternal love will be heard, no matter where it is sung!
MM: When would a big dream come true for you?
AK: When my music has the ability to bring two hearts closer together
MM: What are some upcoming projects that you have planned in the near future?
AK: I am a member of the “Sayeh” ensemble. This Persian classic music ensemble, named after the great Persian poet Sayeh, Is composed of Amir Hossein Sam, Sina Jahan Abadi, Amir Ali Sam and I. We have performed in a number of concerts outside Iran and hope to have programs inside Iran in the near future. I’m currently recording the vocals for Amir Hossein Sam’s latest album: “Midaanam keh Miayi”.
MM: Thank for taking your in interviewing with PM!
