If you are a US non-resident you may wish to study there for a year, if so here's how!
Steps
Find a university or college that offers foreign placements around the world.
Apply to this college/university (you may have to earn various UCAS points/qualifications before you can do this via 6th form etc) and hopefully get in!
Attend the college or university,and get the grades! (often students academically failing will not be allowed on the exchange program).
Attend exchange meetings and apply to the college of your choice. (usually its the middle year where you attend a US college for either a semester or a full academic year)
Go to the US embassy, make sure you take passport, driving license etc and proof that you have enough money to pay for. tuition, living costs and insurance.
Proof may be a letter from your bank accomplished by statements.
Book your flights and leave when appropriate!!!

Make sure all the units match up to the ones you are meant to be learning at home to achieve your specific degree or course title.
Watch out when moving to areas with extremely high or low winter/summer temperatures.
