Calvin Klein Celebrates the Big 4-0 in Style

Aromatic white roses flooded the former elevated rail structure that will soon become a public park, and an entire edifice had been erected with a staircase to reach it. Once there, guests could follow the train tracks across a whole city block, from Tenth to Eleventh avenues.

At the end, they reached an electric view of the Hudson River. "This is an incredible New York moment," said Rosario Dawson, who as a native of the East Village has surely lived through a few. "I never thought I'd be up here in my stilettos."

British import Estelle performed a short set for the 600 or so guests, including her hit single "American Boy," as well as a version of "New York, New York" that substituted "Calvin Klein's 40th Anniversary" for a few of the famous lyrics.

"It's a shame the whole structure has to come down," said Italo Zucchelli, Calvin Klein's menswear designer. "I would have loved to do a show here."
