salam. Man chand vaghte pish too BBC yek maghaleh didam dar morede yek surveyi ke az mardoome alman kardan rajeh beh "the best Germans of history". Karl Marx, J.S. Bach, S. Freud, L.V. Beethoven, etc.
goftam hamin karo vase Iranian anjam bedim.
fehreste man (in order): (btw guys I suggest leaving religious figures like Zartosht, Mani, Bahaullah, Bab, Mazdak etc. out of this to avoid controversy)
1) Cyrus II Achaemenes aka Cyrus the Great
Greatest achievements (in order): Earning the honor of being my avatar, Founding and expanding the empire of the Achaemenidae, displaying great tolerance FAR beyond his time, formation of the first charter of human rights (babylon 539 B.C.), liberation of the Jews ending the first diaspora, becoming the only Gentile to be referred to as "Messiah", innovations in battle tactics, invention of the postal system, introduced the art of carpet making to the Persians, built the palace at Pasargadae, a sex/beauty symbol in his time if it is important for you.
flaws/failures: apparently had a quick temper and was polygamous but considering his time period he really didn't have any known flaws...
2) Hakim Abolqasem Ferdowsi Toosi
Achievements (by writing the Shahnameh): Preserving the Persian language and culture, preserving Persian folklore, writing nice poetry.
flaws/failures: overly racist.
3) Rostam Suren-Pahlav aka General Surena
Achievements: leading the Iranians of the Parthian (Ashkanid) dynasty to victory against the greatest odds they ever faced: in the battle of Carrhae, 53 B.C. an Iranian army of 10 thousand defeated the invading Roman army of Crassus, numbering 44 thousand (some say as little as 40 thousand and some say as many as 52 thousand but 44 thousand is imo the most credible number), killing half of them and taking a quarter of them prisoner.
flaws/failures: being a very opulent and self indulging sonofabitch, degrading the slain Roman general, Crassus
4) Darius I Achaemenes aka Darius the Great
Achievements: Defeated nineteen rebellions in his first year of rule alone, preventing the Persian empire from falling apart, Expanded the Persian empire which reached its height under his rule, created the palatial complex of Persepolis and the palace at Susa, commissioned stone inscriptions such as those at naqshe Rostam and Bisotun which furnish much of our knowledge of Persian history, created the Royal road spanning across much of the empire, facilitating communication, crushing the rebellion of the Greeks in Asia minor (Turkey), led a campaign against Scythian barbarians ending their raids into Persian territory, created the first canal from the Mediterraneann to Red Seas which lasted into Roman times.
Flaws/Failures: Lost the battle of Marathon, the campaign against the Scythians was not as successfull as would have been hoped, was very cruel to rebels/dissidents, had a long and ugly beard.
5) Mohammad Mosadeq
Achievements: the great democratic nationalist leader of Iran, famous for nationalizing the oil industry among other things.
Failures/Flaws: I don't know enough about him.
