O-HUM means 'Illusions' in Farsi. The band formed in 1998 in Tehran, by Shahram Sharbaf [Vocal and guitars] with Shahrokh Izadkhah [guitars\Seh-tar]] and Babak Riahipour [Bass].
O-HUM plays a mixture of rock, and traditional Iranian music along with the great Hafez Lyrics. By playing rock instruments such as guitars and drums along with Iranian traditional instruments like sehtar,Tar,Kamanche,Daf and mixing them with digital technology, O-Hum created a new sound in Persian music. O-HUM recorded Its first
album in summer of 1999 In Tehran\Iran, called 'Nahal-eHeyrat' ('The Sapling of Wonder'). though the album got a huge appreciation and feedback from Fans and listeners around the world, The Ministry of Guidance [ERSHAD] in Tehran\Iran never allowed them to release their first Album or Perform any official concert. in January 2001 O-HUM opened its official website www.o-hum.com and put all album tracks on line for public download for free. Site design and graphic were done by Zartosht Soltani, an old friend of O-HUM and a well known Iranian graphic artist. his brilliant work helped O-Hum.com to attract many fans and friends. People started to hear O-HUM over internet from all around the world, most of them Iranians, and many Non-Iranians.
In March 2001 O-HUM played its private concert in Russian Orthodox Church in Tehran to 300 people and performed complete 'Nahal-e Heyrat' . Most of this year was spend trying to Resolve problems with Ershad to let O-HUM release 'Nahal-e heyrat' and perform if officially. In winter of 2002 O-HUM entered studio to record two singles called 'Hafez in Love...' with guest Musicians such as Eynee Kayvanshokooh [Drums] , Pedaram Derakhshanni [Baghlama] and Ali Rahimi [DAF]. New songs went Online at O-Hum.com in March 2002 and ''Hafez in Love...' Singles got a very huge appreciating and feedback from Fans worldwide [As documented by Site reports more than 15,000 people downloaded singles in first week of its launch].
In July 2002, After 3 years of try and fail things came to a point where O-HUM felt it's not really possible to continue their career in Iran anymore. Shahram and Shahrokh decided to move out to Vancouver\Canada and Babak announced that he's going to stay in Iran and keep his personal solo projects. in June 2002 Shahram joined Shahrokh in Vancouver to start working on 'Nahal-e Heyrat' which was scheduled to be released in North America and worldwide via Amazon.com. A concert had also been booked at UBC [University of British Colombia] for end of September. while things were in progress Zartosht Soltani, an old friend and the man behind O-HUM Graphic and Multimedia designs joined the band to prepare CD artworks and Multimedia content.
After 3 months of hard work, CD package got ready to be sent to duplication company but Shahrokh suddenly announced that he's going to leave O-HUM due to his personal reasons, therefore he couldn't Invest or be available for anything further. a month later Shahram returned to Tehran. In December 2002 O-Hum.com went out of service due to economical and personal reasons. it was in June 2003 that Shahram gathered the team again and kicked off the O-HUM Official site, which had been Off for more than six months.
And today...
Shahram Sharbaf [O-HUM's Singer\Songwriter] continues O-HUM. Since ERSHAD is still not happy with his Music, O-HUM will keep going as an Internet project until the day fans and people could buy albums and CDs officially. a new O-HUM album which has been written in past two years is finally in recording process and will be probably finished before the winter. New album will be released on O-HUM official site as MP3 downloads.
Babak Riahipour is involved in different Music projects with various artists. His solo album 'Trial and Error' [Produced and Engineered by Shahram Sharbaf] was released in January 2004.
Shahrokh Izadkhah is living in Vancouver, studying Music Production course. No information is available if he's also going to release any solo project.
