  • Iranian DREAMZ (New Movie 2006 )

This weekend, the movie "American Dreamz" hits theatres around the nation. The film, the latest work by Paul Weitz of "In Good Company" fame, is a comedy/satire about the ridiculousness of the status quo on American politics and media. The American President, played by Dennis Quaid, reads a newspaper for the first time in years. His realization of recent events has him hiding, so his chief of staff books signs him up as a guest judge on a talent show, mimicking "American Idol". This triggers a potential terrorist scheme, which nicely allows for starring roles for a host of Iranian actors in LA, with the most recent addition of Sam Golizar.

Sam plays the part of "Omer" in the film. Omer is a recent Southern Californian immigrant, who also is a contestant on the show and just happens to be a terrorist, awaiting orders to execute his plan.

This is the first big Hollywood movie appearance for this American-born actor. Sam's off-the--wall character is supplemented by the beautiful Shohreh Aghdashloo who plays the role of "Nazneen Riza". The cast also includes the likes of Hugh Grant, Mandy Moore, and Marcia Gay Harden. Kudos to both Iranians for demystifying the "middle-east terrorist" stereotype.

okay, shoma migin kudos to both of the actors for demulsifying the "middle-east terrorist" stereotype. If an iranian is playing a terrorist, how is that "demulsifying" the stereotype? isnt it more living up to the stereotype that middle-easterns (in this case, iranians) are okay with being portrayed as terrorists?

thanks for clearing that up. but ye nokte, age producer baraye shoma miferestad ke "iranians seem to be very adept at portraying terrorists since they are middle-eastern" what would you have thought? I am not upset with you nor do i blame you, but unfortunetely a lot of non-iranian people who read info like that arent open minded and arent educated, so they just might get the wrong idea, the idea being that since we feel others might see us as terrorists we now have iranians playing roles as such (living up to the stereotype) or if we are trying to prove that we arent, why do we have iranians playing terrorists? hala nazare khodeto rajebe oon jomleye producer mikham

i wasnt trying to mix it with politics, but the non-iranians who see the movie wont think that way. everyone has a certain image of a terrorist in their heads, and when you put an iranian playing one, well, you just added one more group of people to the huge throng of those "middle-easterns" seen as terrorists.
