here is one of Nimas poems:
    Along the Riverbank

    Along the Riverbank

Along the riverbank wanders the old turtle

    The day's a sunny day.

    The rice-paddy scene is warm.

The old turtle basks in the warm lap of its sun,

    Sleep at ease

    along the riverbank.

Along the riverbank there's only me

Tired from the pain of desire,

    Awaiting my sun.

    But my eyes

Cannot see it for an instant.

    My sun

Has hidden its face from me in the distant waters.

For me everything is clear everywhere

    In my standing,

    In my hurrying,

Only my sun is not clear

    along the riverbank.

Iran pays tribute to Ali Esfandiari known as Nima Youshij, founder of modern Persian poet and a leading literary figure in the country.

Iranians commemorate the 48th death anniversary of Nima, father of the Persian modern poetry, who passed away in a winter night on January 6, 1960.

Nima was born in the village of Yush located in Iran's northern province of Mazandaran on November 12, 1897.

He moved to Tehran at the age of 12. At the French St. Louis School and under the influence of the French Symbolist movement, he established a new and different form of poetry, now known as Modern, alternatively Nima poetry style.

Torrents of criticism were directed at the Persian literature master for breaking the classic and traditional rules of poetry composition. However, 'The Phoenix', his first truly innovative poem is regarded by many as an indisputable masterpiece.

Free verse, which shows a courageous replacement of the old, traditional poetic devices by an innovative free flowing approach, is a symbolic style of poetry.

Nima manipulated the rhythm and rhyme so that the line length was determined by the idea rather than by the conventional Arabic meters which used to rule Persian poetry for centuries.

    My house is Cloudy

My house is overcast by clouds
Permanently weighed by a pall of cloud over the earth.
The wind, broken, desolate and intoxicated,
    Whirls over the pass.
The world is laid waste by it
    And my senses too!
    O piper!
O you enchanted by the music of the pipe, where are you?

    My house is cloudy, yet
The cloud is impregnated by rain.

Cherished by the illusion of my bright days,

    I stand opposite the sun
I cast my gaze upon the sea.
And the entire world is desolated and ravaged by the wind
And the ever-playing piper progresses onto his path
    In this cloudy world.
