Even though women in Iran are urged to wear a veil, wrap or long coat and scarf, there are a lot of variations in Islamic dresses. In general women are asked to cover their hair, and wear loose clothing. Over the past years, more and more Iranian women have switched from the all-black uniform to more figure-hugging outfits and brighter colors.
Iranian women are not allowed to wear Western clothes, especially if they are regarded as revealing, sexy. This is referred to as 'Westoxication' in public.
There are special signs in many pubic places like governmental offices, hospitals, hotels, restaurants, and shops telling that entrance with non-Islamic dresses is forbidden.
A fashion show with Islamic clothes created by designer Mahra Zamani in Tehran, demonstrated just how far the women can take it. The fashion show demonstarted also some flexibility on the government's part and and creativity on the designer's part to adapt to the situation. In general these the direction of this fashion and style is compatible with the modern Western fashions.
