In November of 1977, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, Shah of Iran, and the Shahbanou Farah Diba, visited the United States. President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter hosted the 2-day visit with a welcoming ceremony. During the visit, Mr. Carter and the Shah of Iran inspected the troops. The Shah of Iran and the Shahbanou of Iran also present the US president with a gift, which was a tapestry of President George Washington.

The tapestry was is hand-knotted wool carpet, with an ornate and traditional Persian border, a presidential seal and the image of George Washington in the center. The work took two years to complete and was created by the famous artists of Isfahan. The tapestry is said to contain 120-160 knots per square centimeter. Finally, the heads of state participated in a formal state Dinner on the evening of their arrival.
