The 13th Asian Junior Men's Under-20 Volleyball Championships began here on Wednesday with 17 teams participating.
On the first day competitions, China, Australia, India, Chinese Taipei and Pakistan clinched their first victory with ease.
India defeated Yemen in straight sets in the first match of the day. Then Chinese Taipei and Australia followed up with the same set scores, beating Kuwait and Sri Lanka.
In the evening, China played against Indonesia, with China giving a strong performance and downing their opponents 3-0. In the last match of the day, Pakistan also won their match over Thailand in straight sets.
Defending champion Korea, last edition's runner-up Iran, Qatar(third finisher) and Japan, fourth finisher, are selected as the top four seeds. They will not compete in the preliminary group competitions and will enter the quarterfinals directly.
The other teams in each group will play against each other and the top team in each group will join the above-mentioned four teams in the quarterfinals. According to the regulation of the Championships, Iran and Qatar will play against the first finishers in Group A and Group C while Korea and Japan will compete with the top teams from Group B and D. They will play on the basis of single round robin, with the top two teams in each group enter the semifinals. This Championship is also served as a qualification tournament for the 2007 Men's Under-32 World Championship.
