LONDON (Reuters) - Two cross-channel passengers, who sparked a major alert on Monday after being reported missing, have been found safe and well in Belgium, police said.
The couple, a man and woman aged between 20 and 25, were reported to have disappeared from the P&O ferry 'Pride of Kent' after it docked in Calais at 2.40 a.m. following its trip from Dover.
They had been travelling on a
coach and the driver raised the alarm after realising he was short of two passengers.
The ferry's crew searched the ship twice after which two French helicopters, a British coastguard spotter plane, lifeboats from France and Britain and a French navy frigate were sent out to scour a 25-mile stretch of water.
Kent police said it appeared that the couple were now safe and well back at their home in Belgium.
"Police are now in the process of confirming their identities after managing to speak to both of them on the telephone," a spokesman said.
