The Indian media has reacted cautiously to the alleged racism experienced by Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty on the Big Brother reality TV show in the UK.

The news made it to the front pages of Thursday newspapers, but most warned against overreaction and there were strong words of advice for Ms Shetty.

'Racist attacks trigger outrage', headlined Hindustan Times on its front page.

'Big Brother India strikes,' chimed in The Telegraph on two Indian ministers protesting against the 'racist slurs' faced by the Bollywood actress.

'Big Brother India Backs Shilpa In UK,' echoed The Asian Age.
'Big Brother's Brown shadow on Brown', headlined The Economic Times on how the issue was turning into an "embarrassment" for the visiting UK Chancellor of Exchequer Gordon Brown.

The Indian Express struck a sceptical note saying that there was "no need for concerted national outrage over what undoubtedly seem to be racist jibes against an Indian actor participating in a British reality TV programme".

"...the TV programme in question is designed to bring out the worst in participants. It can be race, it can be class, it can be gender, it can be any marker, real or perceived..," the newspaper said in an editorial.

The paper also sounded a note of caution against overreaction by saying that "Indian responses should also factor in our own record on prejudice".

"If racism is a fact in many interactions in British society, prejudice is a quotidian reality of Indian social life".

Hindustan Times echoed the same sentiment in its editorial.

"However abhorrent these remarks are, Shilpa went into this with her eyes wide open. A successful woman like her should have been able to give back as good as he got. We are no strangers to racism. True, we don't want to be at the receiving end. But we are no less racist within the country," it said.

The Telegraph also mocked Delhi's reaction to the incident.

"If Britain's Channel 4 is scouting for publicists, it need look no further than Delhi's corridors of power", it said.


Was it wise for Ms Shetty to have agreed to take part in the show? Bollywood filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt in Mumbai's DNA newspaper clearly thinks not.

"Why do we go on bended knees and lick their boots?" he asks.

"I believe no one can insult you without your permission. Shilpa Shetty has paid the price for trying to desperately seek the approval of the West."

"It is pathetic how we can go on bended knees and lick the boots of Westerners in an effort to be part of their world."

In its editorial, the newspaper said "Shetty has to find the attitude and the chutzpah to face the comments - racially pejorative or just downright bitchy - from her 'friends' in the house [because] Big Brother is all about running the other contestants down in order to get on top."

"And we, as viewers back home, need to understand that since she asked for it by signing on, she needs to deal with it."

Delhi's Today newspaper reported that the issue had become the top talking points in Indian blogs, and Shetty was getting a lot of support from "bloggers who are clearly Briton and white".

"You may be hard-pressed to recall any of Shilpa Shetty's films, but today her name is on everybody's lips... indeed we have to clean our own backyards before pointing fingers. That seemed to be the message from Indian bloggers," the newspaper said.

Profile: Shilpa Shetty

Shilpa Shetty is one of Bollywood's glamorous actresses who enjoys quite a fan base amongst Indian film viewers.
The 31-year-old does not have the kind of audience pull a top actress such as Aishwarya Rai, Rani Mukherjee or Preity Zinta possesses. But she certainly adds value to a high-profile star cast.

Shetty was first noticed in 1993 when she starred in a supporting actress role opposite actor Shah Rukh Khan in the hit film Baazigar (Player).

She then went on to play lead roles in hits such as Main Khiladi Tu Anari (Me Player, You Buffoon) and Dhadkan (Heartbeat).

Later, she got tremendous recognition for her portrayal of a lawyer with HIV in the 2004 film Phir Milenge (Will Meet Again).

Shetty speaks of Brother 'racism'

Celebrity Big Brother contestant Shilpa Shetty has spoken for the first time of her fears she is a victim of racism.
After a row over stock cubes, the actress was comforted by fellow housemate Cleo Rocos who said: "I don't think there's anything racist in it."

But Shetty said: "It is, I'm telling you." Channel 4 has insisted there has been "no overt racial abuse".

Chancellor Gordon Brown, on a visit to India, condemned anything that went against British "tolerance".

Channel 4 and TV regulator Ofcom have had more than 21,000 complaints about the treatment of Shetty.

Housemate Danielle Lloyd said she thought the actress should go home, a statement she later said that she regretted.

Channel 4 said: "To date there has been no overt racial abuse or racist behaviour directed against Shilpa Shetty within the Big Brother house.

"However there has undoubtedly been a cultural and class clash between her and three of the British females in the house."

The statement added that housemates had constant access to support from Big Brother, and Shetty had "not voiced any concerns of racial abuse".

Condemnation

Ofcom said it had received about 19,300 complaints about Celebrity Big Brother - a record for a television broadcast. A further 2,000 have been made directly to Channel 4.

Hertfordshire Police said two e-mail threats against housemates had been sent to Channel 4, but would not say if they related to the alleged racism.

The force said it had also forwarded about 40 complaints to Channel 4.

A spokesperson also confirmed they will investigate allegations of racism with a view to taking action, and added that the force has experience of examining and resolving incidents in the Big Brother house.

The story featured on the front pages of several Indian newspapers on Wednesday, and a small-scale protest in the eastern Indian city of Patna saw the burning of an effigy.

Mr Brown said that the issue had been raised repeatedly during his trip to the country, adding: "I want Britain to be seen as a country of fairness and tolerance. Anything detracting from this I condemn."

The Indian government is awaiting a report on the programme and could raise the matter with the UK.

Anand Sharma, India's junior minister for external affairs, said: "The government will take appropriate measures once it gets to know the full details. Racism has no place in civilised society."

Audience boost

Amid the row, Celebrity Big Brother drew its third-largest audience of the series on Tuesday evening.

The main highlights show averaged 4.5 million viewers, up from 3.5 million on Monday and 3.9 million on Tuesday last week.

Bookmaker William Hill made Shetty favourite to win the series, at odds of 6/4.

"She has stuck in there and if she now picks up the public sympathy vote, punters certainly believe she will be very hard to beat," it said.

Housemates Jade Goody, Danielle Lloyd and Jo O'Meara have been seen making fun of Shetty's accent.

On Monday night's episode, former S Club 7 star O'Meara reportedly suggested that Indians were thin because they were always ill as a result of undercooking their food.

The trio also complained that Shetty had touched other housemates' food with her hands.


'Absolutely absurd'

Leo Sayer, who left the house last week, said the alleged bullies were "all being very stupid, but I think basically they are good people".

"I wouldn't put them down as nasty people," the singer told Capital Radio.

O'Meara was defended by her former S Club 7 band mate Bradley McIntosh, who said: "she's not racist".

But he admitted he was "kind of disappointed" in the singer, since she had once been the victim of bullying herself.

"Some of the things she's said, I've just thought: 'Oh my God, what have you said that for?'"

A friend of Lloyd, Leeandra Anderson, said that the suggestion the housemate was racist was "absolutely absurd".

"I've known Danielle for five years now and not once has she had a racist undertone in her voice ever," she told BBC Radio Five Live.

A programme spokesman previously defended the decision to show the offending footage.

"The social interactions of the group are part of the Big Brother story and viewers have a right to see these portrayed accurately."

حالا اين شوی پرطرفدار تلويزيونی که جنبه ها و نمودهای خصوصی زندگی افراد معمولی را به نمايش می گذارد، به سياست آميخته شده است.

ظاهرا آدمهای عامی امکان می يابند که در جريان اين برنامه سرگرم کننده (که تمام مدت زير نظر دوربين هستند)، حرف های توهين آميز به زبان بياورند و ديگران را بيازارند.

يکی از نمونه های تازه اين افزار سرگرمی، توهين به شيلپا شتی ستاره نامی باليوود (مرکز صنعت سينمای هند) بوده است که برای سياست خارجی بريتانيا مشکل آفريده است.

شرکت کنندگان مجموعه جديد و کنونی برادر بزرگ، عمدتا هنرمندان و افراد سرشناس دنيای سينما و موسيقی هستند و خانم شتی نيز يکی از آنهاست.

خانم شتی از نوجوانی به سينما راه يافته است

گوردون براون، وزير دارايی بريتانيا و نخست وزير احتمالی آينده، که در حال ديدار از هند است، با اعتراض خشم آميز روبرو شده. وی بلافاصله حساب دولت بريتانيا را از حساب برنامه های تلويزيونی سرگرم کننده جدا کرده است.

او که برای گسترش روابط بريتانيا با هند به آن کشور رفته، گفته است که چندين بار در هند اين مسئله را با او مطرح کرده اند.

او گفته است می خواهد اطمينان دهد که بريتانيا همچنان به اصول "مدارا و صداقت" پايبند است.

يکی از دستياران نزديک آقای براون در بريتانيا گفته است که برخی از گفته ها و حرکاتی که در اين برنامه پخش می شود، تصوير نادرستی از بريتانيا به دست می دهد.

تونی بلر نخست وزير بريتانيا نيز از اين برنامه تفريحی تلويزيونی فاصله گرفته است.

چنين برنامه هايی که در ظاهر هدفی جز تفريح و سرگرمی ندارند، گاه می توانند صبغه سياسی تندی به خود بگيرند و در خارج چهره نادرستی از کشور ارائه دهند.

واقعيت اين است که سرشت و تأثير چنين برنامه هايی چه بسا از مرز شناخته شده فراتر می رود و افکار عمومی را فرا می خواند که با توجه و دقت بيشتری به آنها نگاه کند.

در بريتانيا يک برنامه تلويزيونی تحت عنوان برادر بزرگ (Big Brother) جنجال برانگيز شده و حتی بر مسائل سياسی بريتانيا تاثير گذاشته است.
چند تن از شرکت کنندگان اين برنامه تلويزيونی، به بيان اظهارات نژاد پرستانه عليه شيلپا شتی، شرکت کننده هندی اين برنامه متهم شده اند و اظهارات آنها موجی از اعتراضها را در رسانه ها برانگيخته است.

مسئولان برنامه سرانجام تصميم گرفتند سرنوشت شيلپا شتی و رقيب او جيد گودی را به رای مردم (از طريق پيامهای تلفنی و اس ام اس) واگذار کنند و در اين رقابت، جيد گودی که متهم به رفتار نژاد پرستانه با شيلپا شتی بود، از دور خارج شد.

خانم گودی که در ميان تدابير امنيتی از برنامه خارج شد، در گفتگو با کانال چهار تلويزيون بريتانيا، اتهام رفتار نژادپرستانه را رد کرد.

آقا بالاسر

برادر بزرگ (آقا بالاسر) يک برنامه مستند تلويزيونی است، بر اساس زندگی واقعی تعدادی افراد که از طبقات مختلف اجتماعی و فرهنگی و موقعيت های متفاوت، در يک خانه جمع می شوند.

اين افراد از لحظه ورود به خانه ای که سرتاسر و تمام زوايايش با دوربين های تلويزيونی زير نظر است و به طور مستقيم از تلويزيون پخش می شود، با دنيای بيرون قطع رابطه می کنند و تا زمانی که در اين خانه هستند، نه خبری از بيرون می شوند و نه با کسی از بيرون ارتباط دارند.

برنامه برادر بزرگ ابتدا در سال 1999 در هلند شروع شد و سپس در کشورهای زيادی در پنج قاره جهان، از جمله بريتانيا و حتی کشور هند در آسيا هم رواج پيدا کرد.

نحوه اجرای برنامه و بهانه اصلی آن اين است که زندگی عادی شرکت کنندگان برادر بزرگ که جوامع و فرهنگهای مختلف را نمايندگی می کنند و در مدت ۹ هفته اجرای برنامه، هيچ رابطه ای با دنيای بيرون ندارد، به طور بيست و چهار ساعته زير نظر است و اين می تواند از نظر روانشناسی مورد ارزيابی قرار گيرد.

بينندگان شبکه های تلويزيونی که اين برنامه را می بينند، به تدريج در بحث و جنجالهای احتمالی که ميان شرکت کنندگان برنامه به وجود می آيد، دخالت داده می شوند، رای می دهند و اظهار نظر می کنند.

در برنامه جاری برادر بزرگ بريتانيا، يازده شخصيت معروف از کشورهای بريتانيا، آمريکا و استراليا وارد برنامه شدند.

از جمله شرکت کنندگان اين مجموعه، درک بنيدکت (Dirk Benedict )هنرپيشه آمريکايی، جرمين جکسون (Jermaine Jackson) برادر مايکل جکسون و شلپا شتی (Shilpa Shetty)، هنرپيشه معروف سينمای هند (باليوود) هستند.

جنجال از آنجا آغاز شد که سه دختر انگليسی شرکت کننده، جو اوميرا (خواننده)، دانيل لويد (مانکن زيبايی) و جيد گودی (از شرکت کنندگان دوره های پيشين برادر بزرگ که اکنون معروف و ميليونر شده) بر سر بعضی از مسايل، با خانم شتی اختلاف نظر پيدا کردند و گويا حرفهايی در وصف او بر زبان آوردند که به نظر برخی از بينندگان و حتی محافل سياسی و مطبوعاتی بريتانيا، مصداق نژادپرستی شمرده شده است.

جنجال سياسی و مطبوعاتی


سازندگان برنامه برادر بزرگ، خروج شرکت کنندگان جنجالی را به رای گذاشته اند
اين جنجال، به سرعت از سطح بينندگان برنامه بالاتر رفت، در پارلمان بريتانيا مطرح شد، روزنامه ها و شبکه های تلويزيونی به طور گسترده به اين موضوع پرداختند و در چند روز اخير، در سرخط اخبار بوده است.

جنجال برادر بزرگ، حتی سفر گوردن براون وزير خزانه داری بريتانيا به هند را هم تحت تاثير قرار داد. خبرنگاران می گويند آقای براون که احتمالا نخست وزير آينده بريتانيا خواهد بود، در هند به هر شهری که سفر می کند و با هر مقام هندی که ديدار می کند، با سوالاتی در مورد برخورد شرکت کنندگان انگليسی برنامه برادر بزرگ با هنرپيشه هندی مواجه می شود.

تاکنون نزديک به چهل هزار نفر در بريتانيا از اين برنامه شکايت کرده اند و حتی پليس بريتانيا هم تحقيقاتی را در اين قضيه آغاز کرده است.

"نژاد پرستی"


جرمين جکسون برادر مايکل جکسون نيز در برنامه برادر بزرگ حضور دارد
اگر برخورد سه دختر انگليسی با خانم شتی، مصداق نژادپرستی شمرده شود، در بريتانيا جرم بزرگی محسوب می شود و اين سه نفر، با دادگاه و محاکمه و احتمالاً جريمه های سنگين مواجه خواهند بود.

اما در کنار اين، حالا ديگر جنجال بين المللی برادر بزرگ، برای دولت بريتانيا که شعارهای مدارا و ضد تبعيض نژادی سر می دهد، حيثيتی شده است.

خانم شتی که تا حالا سعی کرده با متانت و آرامش به جنجالهای سه دختر انگليسی پاسخ دهد، گفته که او از فرهنگ مردم خودش نمايندگی می کند و پرسيده که آيا اين سه دختر هم از جامعه امروز بريتانيا نمايندگی می کنند؟ به نظر او، اگر بريتانيا اينطور باشد، ترسناک است.

برخی از بينندگان برنامه، گفته اند احساس شرم می کنند از اين که هموطن آن سه دختر انگليسی هستند.

يک شرکت بازرگانی که تامين کننده (حامی) اصلی برنامه برادر بزرگ است، از لغو قرارداد خود با سازندگان برنامه خبر داده است.

چندين فروشگاه در سطح بريتانيا هم عطرهای دارای مارک جيد گودی، شرکت کننده جنجالی برادر بزرگ بود، از رده فروش خارج کرده اند.

روزنامه ها نوشته اند که دانيل لويد شرکت کننده ديگر نيز که مدل يا مانکن زيبايی است، پس از اين جنجال، احتمالاً با لغو قرارداد مواجه خواهد شد.

تجارت


درک بنديکت و شيلپا شتی، هنرپيشه های هاليوود و باليوود در برنامه برادر بزرگ
اما هيچ کدام از اين جنجالها، باعث نمی شود که سازندگان برنامه، نفع تجارتی خود را ناديده بگيرند.

مسئولان کانال چهار تلويزيون بريتانيا اتهام طرح مسايل نژادپرستانه در برنامه برادر بزرگ را کرده اند و گفته اند که آنچه پيش آمده، فقط ناشی از تفاوت فرهنگها بوده است.

آنها از بينندگان برنامه که حالا ديگر شمارشان از پنج ميليون هم فراتر رفته، خواسته اند تا با ارسال پيامهای نوشتاری (اس ام اس موبايل)، تعيين کنند که شيلپا شتی هنرپيشه هندی يا جيد گودی، رقيب انگليسی او، کدام يک بايد از دور برنامه خارج شوند.

مسئولان برنامه گفتند که در برنامه جمعه شب (۱۹ ژانويه)، بيش از هشتاد درصد رای دهندگان، خواهان خروج خانم گودی از برنامه شدند.

"برادر بزرگ" اسمش رو از رمان جرج ارول به اسم ۱۹۸۴ گرفته. در اين رمان در جامعه ای که يک حذب، حاکم قدرتمند داره و بر همه چيز نظارت می کنه، اسم رئيس حذب "Big Brother" يا "برادر بزرگ" هست.

تصاوير برادر بزرگ که مردی ۴۵ ساله، خوش قيافه و با سيبيلی پر پشته در همه جا ديده ميشه. آدم ها از هر طرف ب اين تصوير نگاه کنند نگاه خيره اون رو به خودشون می بينند. توی اين داستان همه جا دوربینهای تلويزيونی مراقب حرکات، رفتار و حرف های آدم های جامعه هست. در اون دنيا سه شعار حکم فرماست. "جنگ صلحه"، "آزادی بردگيست" و "جهل قدرته". خلاصه هيچ زاويه ای از گذشته و حال و آينده آدم ها نيست که دور از کنترل برادر بزرگ و سيستم های کنترل کننده اش باشه.

سری برنامه های تلويزيونی Big Brother يا برنامه های زنده مبتنی بر واقعيت در اواسط سالهای ۱۹۹۰ در هلند ساخته شد. در بريتانيا نيز اين برنامه از شش سال پيش متداول شد. در اين برنامه تعدادی از افراد مشهور يا غير مشهور برای مدت معينی با هم زندگی می کنند و در نهايت يکی يکی با رای حاضرين در خانه و نماشاچی ها از دور خارج می شوند تا برنامه نهايی معلوم بشه.

برنامه اخير "برادر بزرگ" در بريتانيا چنان صدا و غوغايی به پا کرد که تقريباً در تاريخ رسانه های اين کشور بی سابقه بود. علت اين مسئله هم توهين چند تن از شرکت کننده ها به "شيلپا شتی" هنرپيشه هندی شرکت کننده در اين برنامه بود. شيلپا که از دست هم خونه ای هاش گريه کرد خودش را قربانی تبعيض نژادی خواند. هر چند که بعدها اين مسئله را انکار کرد.

"توی هند هستش که با دست غذا می خورن؟ مطمئن نيستم، به هر حال من که دوست ندارم. معلوم نيست که قبل از اون دستشون رو به کجا زدن!" ... اين گفتگويی بود که دو تا از دخترهای انگليسی شرکت کننده در برنامه راجع به شيلپا و هندی ها می گفتند. حتی در جای ديگه ای هم به اين هنرپيشه هندی که لاغر اندامه گفتند که هندی ها به اين خاطر لاغرند که غذاشون رو قبل از اينکه پخته بشه می خورند. يا اينکه شيلپا رو "سگ" يا آدم چند رو ناميده بودند.


"توی هند هستش که با دست غذا می خورن؟ مطمئن نيستم، به هر حال من که دوست ندارم. معلوم نيست که قبل از اون دستشون رو به کجا زدن!"

پخش اين قسمت ها باعث واکنش های زيادی به اين برنامه شد و حدود ۳۰ هزار نفر در انگلستان نامه نوشتند و از اين حرف های تبعيض آميز شکايت کردند. در هند هم تعداد زيادی تظاهرات کردند و حتی عکس برگزارکنندگان اين برنامه را آتش زدند. بعضی ها هم گفتند شيلپا به خاطر توهينی که بهش شده بايد برنامه رو ترک کنه. اما شيلپا توهين های "جيد گودی"، رقيبش در برنامه را تحمل کرد و از برنامه خارج نشد. بد نيست بدونيم اين دو نفر چه کسانی هستند و چطور به اين برنامه راه پيدا کردند.

جيد يک دختر معمولی هجده ساله انگليسی بود که بر حسب اتفاق برای يکی از برنامه های گذشته "برادر بزرگ" انتخاب شد و بعد از برنده شدن در اون برنامه به شهرت رسيد. شهرت براش پول هم به ارمغان آورد. الان ثروت جيد که هنرپيشه هم شده بالغ بر ۱۸ ميليون پوند تخمين زده ميشه. البته جيد شرکت توليد عطر هم داره که اين دعوای برنامه تلويزيونی به فروش عطرهاش به خصوص در هند خيلی لطمه زده. اين عطرها در هند بسته بندی می شدند و شرکتی که مسئول بسته بندی و توليد عطر جيد هست از اين کار خودداری کرده.


شيلپا شتی ۳۱ ساله هست و از سن ۱۷ سالگی در باليوود هنرپيشه شده. پدر و مادرش هر دو مانکن بودند و خواهرش هم هنرپيشه هست. شيلپا در سينمای هند بيشتر از آنکه برای بازيش جايزه بگيره، برای قد و هيکلش جايزه گرفته. شيلپا اگرچه فيلم زياد بازی کرده اما در باليوود خيلی خوش شانس نبوده. خيلی از فيلم هاش يا با موفيت مواجه نبودند و يا اصلاً نمايش داده نشدند.

با همه این سر و صداهای برنامه برادر بزرگ، در مرحله آخر رقيت اصلی شيلپا، جرماين جکسون، برادر ۵۲ ساله مايکل جکسون خواننده مشهور بود. جرماين مسلمان شده، خواننده و گيتاريست و نويسنده است.

در نهايت شيلپا برنده برنامه تلويزيونی برادر بزرگ اعلام شد. در شب رای گيری برای اين برنامه، ۷ ميليون و ۳۰۰ هزار نفر اين برنامه را تماشا کردند و ۶۳ درصد از بيننده ها به شيلپا رای دادند. اين مسئله آنقدر در برتانيا سر و صدا ايجاد کرده بود که حتی بعضی از مردم با در دست داشتن پرچم هند در خیابان ها از اين مسئله خوشحالی می کردند.

گفته ميشه برنده شدن شيلپا در اين برنامه تلويزيونی او رو به يک چهره جهانی تبديل کرده و سيل پيشنهادات به طرفش سرازير شده. شيلپا به خاطر برنده شدن در اين برنامه يک ميليون پوند گرفت و برای اولين مصاحبه اش هم يک ميليون پوند ديگر دريافت کرد.

تا حالا شرکت در برنامه های مختلفی مانند شوهای کمدی و برنامه ديگر به شيلپا پيشنهاد شده، اما جالب ترين پيشنهاد در زمينه اصلی کار خودش يعنی هنرپيشگی از طرف هاليوود داده شده!

انگار که دعوا با جيد خيلی هم به ضرر شيلپا نبود و حتی آشتی اونها با هم ميتونه کلی خبرساز باشه. فکر می کنيد اولين عکسی که اين دو تا در کنار هم بگيرند چقدر برای هر دوتاشون درآمد داشته باشه؟

Jade Goody Returns Home for Final Days

Jade Goody was frail and half-blind Wednesday as she was brought home from the hospital to spend her last days with family and friends.

The British reality TV star, 27, whose cervical cancer has spread throughout her body, wanted to be close to "all those who are close to her," says her publicist, Max Clifford.

Wrapped in a red blanket, Goody was accompanied by her husband, Jack Tweed, 21, as they left the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. It was reported earlier this week that Goody can only see out of one eye, and she was terrified she wouldn't be able to see her sons Bobby, 5, and Freddie, 4, anymore. She has been told she has a few weeks to live.

"The whole point is that she wants to spend as much time as she can with Jack and the boys," Clifford told the UK television show This Morning. "If they can train up the local nurses, they will keep her pain free by topping up the epidural."

Goody was on the British version of Celebrity Big Brother with Jermaine Jackson, although her racially charged remarks about another candidate got her booted from the show.

Clifford told reporters that Jermaine's brother, Michael Jackson, left her a message over the weekend: "Hi Jade, it's Michael. I'm thinking of you and I hope everything goes as well as it can. I want you to come and see me when I'm over. My brother keeps asking me about you."

Jade Goody's battle with cancer will not be forgotten. In fact, the months since her diagnosis last August will be described in detail in her autobiography.

Calling the book a "love letter" to her sons Bobby, 5, and Freddy, 4, Goody, 27, hopes that she will provide a legacy not only to them but also to women who might face the same battle with cancer.

Some of the proceeds from her book, Forever In My Heart, will go to the charity Marie Curie Cancer Care, which has been providing her with help at home, it was announced Wednesday.

The terminally-ill reality TV star's diary covers the day she discovered she was suffering from cervical cancer to when doctors revealed it had spread to her vital organs. It will also include flashbacks to her earlier life, and it will come up to date, including her wedding and recent christening.

Publishers HarperCollins, which have world rights to the book due out in late spring, call the diary a "modern-day parable" which is set against the story of her difficult childhood and teens.

"This is Jade in her own words. It is impossible not to be moved by her heart-warming voice which comes through loud and clear on every page of this last diary," Belinda Budge, the managing director of Harper Nonfiction, said in a statement. "This emotional book tells a fascinating story of our time, a story of a woman who rose to fame as a controversial reality TV star and has now won admiration in the eyes of many for the fortitude with which she is facing terminal cancer."

Goody is currently at home in Essex, east of London, surrounded by close friends and family, as she faces her final days.
