I was out near Tulkarm, near the refugee camp. As I stepped out of my car, I looked towards a field and suddenly, BOOM! I saw this boy fall to the ground in front of me. He had been shot in the chest.
A few minutes later he died.
This picture was widely published around the world.
The following week, when I returned to the area, an officer in the IDF saw me, and immediately announced the area a closed military zone.

I remember everything as a blur. I just photographed in what seemed ages. But in retrospect, the incident lasted but a few minutes.
Only after I had left the scene did it become clear to me what I had actually photographed.

After the death of the Palestinian boy, the soldiers asked me to leave, as the area was becoming intense with angry feelings running high amongst the residents of the refugee camp.
I remember my foot shaking as I drove out.
