such a well written article. this has been my argument with the Iranian who also claim to love America and hate Iran but when they get a last minute call to join us for dinner they willingly come and feel so at home when they leave!!!!!!
I agree that america is aland of opportunity but it provides a lonly life for majority of foreigner and it is worse when one of the spouse is from another culture as they grow older.
I hope Iranian promote their culture and togetherness instead of pretending to be part of the i.e. american.
Thanks for the reminder of who we are as Iranian.

where did you get this article?

Well, well, well. Bayad daste nevisande ra bousid. I actually live in the UK and completely concur with the author. Whilst everything she has said about Iranians is correct, I think we need to give Americans a bit more points. It is quite clear that she is writing about California. That is not USA. Having said this it does bother me so much (and abviously the author) that Americans think that they are right and know it all about various cultures and people. The good thing is that all such complacency ends in miserable defeat (in time).

Forgetting about Americans and concentrating on Iranians, I came to the UK when I was 14. I am now 47. Until the age of 30 I avoided everthing Iranian, especially girls. Now I am the proud husband of a stunning Iranian lady with whom I have two beautiful children who at least look 100% Iranian. We are trying our best to ensure that they understand what it means to be Iranian.

Every year that passes the affinity to go home becomes stronger. We have a big beautiful house, money, car, job.........but so what. There is no one to use or share the facilities with us. We go to Iran "KE OSTEKHANEMOUN RO GARM KONIM". It is a biy difficult for our kids especially with respect to their education but one day......one day.

I object to author and any one else objecting/devalueing ladies who decide not to work to look after their children. I am very domesticated myself and so I know that I could not show the selflessness my wife has shown to give up her career to stay at home and look after our kids. And show me one person who really thinks that domestic work (to the Iranian standards) are easier than working 9-5.

Despite our leaders and the adverse publicity campaign by foreign media on Iran, I am a proud Iranian and think that one of the reasons that I am where I am (which is reasonablly previleged when compared with 5 billion others on earth and even the 60 million in the UK) because I was born in Iran to Iranian parents and had Iranian up bringing.

Finally since1979 I have only recently discovered that Khomeini was right "AMERICA HICH GHALATI NEMITAVANAD BEKONAD".
