An Iranian fashion designer has been combining Persian culture and beauty with Islamic principles.
But these days she's facing new challenges in the Islamic Republic.
Mahla Zamani began the Lotus clothing and fashion company - named after an ancient Persian flower - 13 years ago.
Her main goal has been to modernise traditional Persian styles, to make them fashionable and comfortable for people to wear today.
She said: "We no longer ride horses, cows, donkeys or goats. We ride on airplanes, buses and the metro. It's necessary that our clothes are modern. We make them less voluminous."
Lotus company makes clothes both for women and men. Their prices range from around 70,000 tomans, or about $80, to a few thousand dollars.
The company has designed uniforms for many businesses, banks, airlines and government offices.
It has put on three fashion shows in Iran and 10 overseas -- many of its customers are foreigners.
The company also produces a quarterly magazine.
The models all wear the required hejab, or Islamic women's clothing.
But Zamani says over the past few months, her business has been facing new challenges.
She says with a new, conservative-led government, political uncertainty and increasing international pressures over Iran's nuclear programme, Lotus company has been struggling to find foreign sponsors like it used to.
She said: "It has changed. Hence I haven't produced my magazine for six months or organised a fashion show for six months to a year. I'm waiting for the political situation to be clearer so we can discuss with the authorities and find out if they support our work. Now, they're busy with other problems."
Still, Zamani says she has no intention of leaving Iran.
She says she wants to put all her energy into making Iranian clothes for the entire world.Comment
