We start off-courze wiz Googoosh:
Faegeh Atashin, nicknamed "Googoosh," is often considered one of the greatest and most popular singers of Iranian pop music. She became a popular child singer and movie star at a very young age and captured the hearts of audiences in the late 1950's and 60's. By the Late 60's Googoosh was beginning to play an influential role in the shaping of Iranian Pop music blending both traditional Persian and a variety of Western styles including Jazz, Blues, Pop Rock, Disco, and Latin.
After the 1979 Islamic Revolution her singing career came to an end, until she made her major comeback in 2000, giving several tours throughout the United States and Canada. Since then, she has released three record-breaking albums.
Her discography boasts over 300 songs, about 250 of which are sung in Farsi, and are of a romantic nature. Her vocal command and distinguished voice make her music immediately recognizable among those familiar with her music.
In the early 1990s Googoosh met Massoud Kimiaei--now her husband. On their first date he took her to a private recording studio in Tehran, and after years of silence she put on her headphones and started to sing for the first time in years. Finally, in 2000, Googoosh left Iran and started a concert tour that spanned the globe. Amazingly, even after so many years that she had been away from the scene, her concerts were all sold out. It showed her extreme and enduring popularity among Iranians and non-Iranians. Currently (as of 2005), Googoosh resides in California and frequently travels to Toronto, Canada, where she has a home.
