Iranian Cartoonist Ardeshir Mohasses died at 70
Iranian cartoonist Ardeshir Mohasses died of a heart attack in New York City on Thursday. He was 70, MNA reported.
He had suffered from Parkinson?s disease for many years.
Born in Rasht in 1938, Mohasses graduated from the University of Tehran Law School in 1962. After graduation, he dedicated all of his time to drawing.
He moved to New York in 1979 and resided there.
He believed that cartoons are an art of reportage and a kind of chronology. In his view, cartoons created during a historical period are considered as historical documents.
His life was intimately connected to the characters in his cartoons. In an interview, he disclosed that his characters? heaviness in his work depended on his own diet and their mode of dress and mannerisms unconsciously depended on his own mood.
He published several collections of his works including Cactus, With Ardeshir Mohasses and his Puppets, Current Events, Momenten, Identity Card and Ardeshir and Stormy Winds, in Iran.
