Greg Durbin, the director of the short film "Boundaries" has said, "Navid Negahban can convey emotion without speaking purely through his face, eyes and body language. In Durbin’s short film, Negahban played a trombonist who critics claimed "conveyed more emotion with a deftly placed trombone slide than does many a multi-million dollar per picture actor."
It's true, when I met Navid Negahban I could tell from the spark in his eyes that he was an actor from deep within his soul - the passion was there. There are few actors who actually put 100% of themselves into the roles that they play. In Negahban's case, he is so passionate about every single character - whether it is a good guy or bad guy role - that he puts his whole being into it. He fully encompasses that role, not even letting language barriers stop him. For example, he told us of a powerful Spanish speaking role he played for another short film called "Mysterious Barricades" where he had to phonetically read his lines with a coach who told him when and where to accentuate his words. Without necessarily knowing the language, he was able to portrait the character to its fullest.
Navid Negahban started out his acting career in Germany. Since then he has been successful in the theater as well as in independent movies. Negahban moved to California 10 years ago where he continued his career. Getting your foot in the door is not easy in Hollywood - agents can only do so much. You have to have that certain something that separates you from all the rest. Negahban told us, "You make yourself successful." And that is true. He has been called a "young Omar Sharif" and currently is the only actor in his talent agency who can play ethnic Middle Eastern roles. He has earned that reputation by playing in several TV movies and series including his supporting role in NBC's TV movie Saving Jessica Lynch, where he played the Fedayeen Colonel, as well as guest appearances on JAG, The Shield and The West Wing. Currently Negahban is working on a movie called Pretty Persuasion starring Evan Rachel Wood, James Woods and Selma Blair. This independent film, which has been compared to American Beauty and Heathers, centers around a sexual harassment scandal that engulfs an exclusive Beverly Hills private school. Negahban gives a powerful and emotional performance, playing a wealthy Palestinian man who is the father of one of the girls involved in the scandal.
Special note: Just as we were interviewing Negahban for this article, he found out that he got the leading role in a feature film that he was being considered for! The film is called The Fallen Ones, also starring Casper Van Dien, Kristen Miller, Tom Bosley, and Robert Wagner. The story is about a Fallen Angel who comes to earth to cause trouble at a present day construction site in the southwest, where they have discovered an ancient tomb containing a giant mummy. Negahban's character is The Fallen One. This project begins filming in September.
