  • Tom and Katie Comfort Accident Victims

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes helped comfort a pair of shaken accident victims Saturday night, PEOPLE has learned.

A rep for the couple confirms that Cruise, 44, and Holmes, 27, were on their way home from the airport after a trip to Salt Lake City, Utah, for an exhibition soccer game (their friend David Beckham and his team, Real Madrid, beat Real Salt Lake 2-0), when they saw a couple on L.A.'s 101 Freeway who had apparently just been in a car accident.

The engaged pair and parents to 4-month-old daughter Suri checked to make sure the passengers, Jon Henningsen and his wife, were not seriously injured, then waited with them until the police and fire department arrived on the scene.

      • Kanye West Engaged to Girlfriend Alexis

Rapper and producer Kanye West is engaged, several sources have confirmed to PEOPLE exclusively.

West, 29, proposed to his girlfriend, Alexis, while overseas for two weeks recently, sources close to the singer tell PEOPLE.

Alexis, whose last name and occupation were not immediately available, was West's girlfriend prior to his October 2002 car accident, one source says.

A rep for West had no comment. This will be the first marriage for the Grammy winner.

West began his rise to fame as a producer for Roc-a-Fella Records, where he gained notice for his work on Jay-Z's 2001 album The Blueprint. He has also produced hits for artists including Ludacris and Alicia Keys.

But his career was nearly derailed by a near-fatal car accident in 2002, which inspired the single "Through the Wire" from his 2004 debut album, The College Dropout.

That record earned Grammys for best rap album and best rap song, and during his acceptance speech West thanked the car accident, saying it made him realize that, "If you have the opportunity to play this game called life, you have to appreciate every moment."

His second album, 2005's Late Registration, won Grammy awards for best rap album, best rap song and best rap solo performance.

        • Kate Hudson, Chris Robinson Separate

Actress Kate Hudson and her husband, Black Crowes singer Chris Robinson, are splitting, PEOPLE has learned exclusively.

The You, Me and Dupree star's rep, Brad Cafarelli, confirms that the couple are separating after nearly six years of marriage.

Hudson, 27, and Robinson, 39, wed on New Year's Eve 2000 after dating for about a year. Their son, Ryder Russell, was born Jan. 7, 2004.

In September 2004, while shooting Skeleton Key in New Orleans, Hudson told PEOPLE about her relationship with Robinson since Ryder's birth: "We're sharing something so gigantic now. I think it's the best we've ever felt being together."

                      • Rachael Ray's Special Guest: Oprah

When Rachael Ray's new talk show kicks off in September, one very special guest will be in the house: Ray's friend and mentor, Oprah Winfrey.

On Aug. 3, Winfrey, 52, made a surprise stop at the New York City set of Ray's show, where she hung out for the entire taping, met the audience, got a full tour of the set and shared some on-air coffee talk with Ray.

Afterwards, Winfrey, who rarely appears on other people's shows, headed to the airport for a flight to South Africa, where she is working on her Leadership Academy for Girls, due to open in January.

Ray's hour-long syndicated program, The Rachael Ray Show, premieres Sept. 18. The episode with Winfrey will air during its first week.

However, the show will not be celebrity-driven. Ray, 36, says she expects guests, including her husband, lawyer and musician John Cusimano, to relax and get their hands dirty by cooking with her or playing foosball.

The show is coproduced by King World and Winfrey's Harpo production company. On advice Winfrey has given her, Ray said last month, "She tells me to be myself. She doesn't chime in or call up and say, 'This is how you can be more like Oprah.' She's pretty busy with her own job."
