  • To Vista or not to Vista?

Hello boys and girls. I've been using Windows XP for the past 6 years on my laptops and desktops and been very happy with it (the damn thing is virtually crash proof). But now I need new hardware and almost all the laptops and desktops these days are with Vista. And I've heard many nightmare stories about Vista!
Are they true? Is Vista that bad? Should I pay extra and get Vista with XP option?

vista uses twice as much ram as xp does, basically just to let it run by itself without any new software you will be applying to your new machine, it will suck the living life force outta your computer, i bought a laptop recently and yes they all come with vista installed on it, i don't even like the layout, its confusing and not user-friendly, i just formatted it to xp pro, there is a reason why xp pro was on the market for so long, cause its so damn good than its predessecors. you can still update all windows components with xp, so you are safe and up to date, heck they make sure that even with new software its compatible with windows 98, so yeah you are covered. with vista to run smoothly, if u don't mind its look, you need a run a quad a quad core rather than a dual core, good luck

nutcase basically said everything I was going to say.

I was on XP myself too for a very long time, but I switched to Vista few months ago when all the apps that I used converted to vista and became vista computable. I have pretty fast PC so I don't notice the slowness of vista, but if you want the same speed as u had on XP u pretty much need double the amount of hardware speed and capacity of your XP setup

beside that Vista is very cool and fast if you have the right hardware for it..

but keep in mind that Windows 7 is coming out soon... and it look very very promising and impressive check it out...

Vista's search and indexing feature is very veryyyyyy nice and much better than xp, file organization and navigation is very easy and feature reach.

I say you should defiantly convert to vista, besides no one supports XP anymore every hardware that comes out is vista based anyways

      good luck

Mate, if youre looking for a laptop then seriously consider this one: philips freevents 12NB5800.
Its amazing. Tiny (size of an A4 piece of paper), lightweight, fast (2GB ram), inbuilt webcam. I take it everywhere with me - it fits in my handbag. Battery life is amazing too.

As for Vista, just get it. Dont bother paying extra for the XP version. If its relatively cheap then dont be "del doshovaky", "khasis" etc do whatever *youre* comfortable with. But personally i think its a waste of money if you do. I hated Vista at first too but soon I got used to it. Yea, its supposed to have bugs but dont forget that every so often we get updates. I think people were only making a big deal out of it because its human nature to resist change, but you know, its not *that* bad... I only ever had one bug with my Vista (the time display was messed up) but within a week it got fixed automatically. Maybe i got lucky, who knows?

Dont choose a laptop based on the OS, though. You may end up buying a crappy laptop just because it runs on XP. Then in a couple of years time youre gonna have problems because programmes arent gonna support XP, so you need to think about stuff like that.

you have been waiting so long, just wait 10 more months, then use windows 7. windows 7 is much better and faster than windows vista.
