Iran honors Italian Hafez expert Giovanni D’Erme
TEHRAN -- Italian expert on Hafez Giovanni M. D’Erme has been awarded the medal of the Iranian Center for the Study of Hafez for his 50-year contribution to Persian literature undertaken in Italy.
The program, which was held at the Sadra Hall of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences on Sunday evening, was part of a week-long conference underway in that city to celebrate World Poetry Day (March 21).
A member of the Istituto Universitario Orientale, the Italian Institute for Oriental Studies in Naples, D’Erme has spent most of life working on Persian literature and particularly on the poetry of Hafez.
D’Erme was the first person to translate The Divan of Hafez into Italian.
Last year, the Center for the Study of Hafez awarded the medal to French Orientalist and expert on Hafez, Charles-Henri de Fouchécour.
