Shabnam might be out but four more men are in the Big Brother house and will today start settling in to what was only two weeks ago a completely man-free zone.

"Shabs" became the first housemate to be evicted from the eighth series of the reality show last night, moments after the latest male injection into the house.

The 22-year-old north London temp, who was up against Carole and Tracey for the chop, was hot favourite to go and duly received a staggering 81.4% of the total votes cast.

After a bizarre and long-winding farewell to her housemates and then a little show of her dance moves to the waiting - booing - crowds, she told presenter Davina McCall: "I've got no complaints. I've had a blast."

McCall went on to show a clip of Shabnam speaking in the diary room, saying that she wanted to leave the house but asking Big Brother whether she would get "deals" if she left of her own accord.

But asked to specify what she wanted out of the show, she simply said: "I still want to get the most out of this. I have a zest for life. I'm not going to say 'I want this, I want this', whatever comes to me would be welcome.

"I'm grateful for the experience - I had a fantastic time."

With Shabnam gone and last night's new additions, the tally of men and women in the house is now almost equal at seven male to eight female housemates.

The girls now have Billi, 25, Brian, 19, Jonathan, 49, and Liam, 22, to feast their eyes on as well as Seany, Gerry and Ziggy.

Data entry clerk Brian is apparently such a Big Brother fan that he keeps every episode of the reality show stashed under his bed and, like Noel Edmonds, he believes in cosmic ordering.

Jonathan, meanwhile, has a personal fortune of £5 million and claims never to have seen one episode of the programme.

Nevertheless, he has postponed his wedding this summer in order to be a housemate and says his sole motivation for doing so is his ego.

Tree surgeon Liam claims his friends would describe his as a ladies' man, saying: "I'm not Brad Pitt, but I'm not Quasimodo's brother."

His ideal woman is one "I have to work for - a challenge" and he hates rudeness but likes tact.

Single model Billi, or "Massimo" as he likes to be known, is a gym-goer who watches his diet and fears waking up with a shaved head.

He wants Big Brother to change his life - and thinks "mind games" and manipulation are the way to win the show but suspects he will be nominated for being two-faced, arrogant and vain.

Shabnam's eviction was a "shocker" for bookies, according to Ladbrokes who had to close their book on the 22-year-old yesterday morning after a run of money cutting her odds even further to 1/66.

Ladbrokes spokesman, Nick Weinberg, said: The eviction was as close to a formality as we're likely to see on Big Brother.

"The only thing that could have saved Shabnam was a walk-out. When that failed to materialise it was game over."

She managed to attract over 90% of all eviction bets the bookmakers took which was "some going" in a three horse race, Mr Weinberg added.

He said: "The series has got off to the worst possible start for us given the uncompetitive nature of the vote. And with Charley still in the house were bracing ourselves for further eviction night carnage."

Ladbrokes have made new arrival Liam an 8/1 chance to win the show, with fellow late entrants Brian, Jonathan and Billi 9/1,10/1 and 14/1 respectively.

Mr Weinberg said: "The newcomers will hopefully freshen up the house. But how long before the new meat is devoured by the man-hungry inmates?"

Big Brother turned entertainer this evening, when Shabnam was brought back into the house in the form of a party game.

Earlier in the evening, Brian and Billi asked each other who they would like to kiss in a game of 'spin the bottle', as both of them moaned about the lack of available girls in the house.

The pair visited the diary room to ask Big Brother for more single girls, with Brian asking them to bring Shabnam back.

Brian's wish was then granted when a picture of Shabnam and a box filled with wine, beer and alcopops was delivered.

Carole told the excited housemates that they had two games to play - 'Pin The Tail On The Shabnam' and 'Truth or Dare'.

After reading the rules, she suggested that they tuck into the alcohol before they played any of the games.

          Big Brother: Shabnam's out!

Shabnam has become the first housemate to be evicted from the current series of Big Brother, ahead of fellow nominees Carole and Tracey.

The 22-year-old Londoner polled 81.4 per cent of the votes cast by the public, and left the house during the second live Big Brother show on Friday night.

On hearing the news, Shabnam said, "I knew it, I knew it!" She received hugs from her fellow housemates as she prepared to leave. "I've had a blast," she said.

Charley, however, took the news badly and was in tears as Shabnam made her exit.

Meanwhile, Shabnam admitted she was nervous about how the crowd would react to her.

"I can hear booing," she said to herself as she made her way up the stairs to the exit. "What have I done?? I'm fun!"

She eventually left the house to heckling and booing, despite trying to win the crowd over. "I love you all," she shouted. "I'm sorry if I hurt any one of you!" She even broke into a dance routine in an effort to gain the crowd's approval - without success.

During her eviction interview with Davina, Shabnam said she wasn't surprised to be evicted.

"I was very outspoken, more than the other two, and I think I got on a lot of people's nerves," she said. "Maybe with Carole and Tracey there's more to watch and in time they'll start to come out."

She wasn't quite so nice about Charley, her 'best friend' in the house.

"I'll be very honest," she said, "In there, unless you're there till the end of time, I don't think anyone is anyone's real friend. We could understand each other but she was at times very aggressive."

"But I don't think she means any harm."

She had kinder words for the house lovebirds Ziggy and Chanelle. "I think it's for real," she said. "I'd like to think it will last. It's nice to have some love in the house, with everybody bickering over hair straighteners."

Shabnam's eviction came just moments after four new men entered the house. She is the third person to leave the house so far this series, after Emily was removed by Big Brother and Lesley quit.

Tree surgeon Liam McGough texted his boss to say he was branching out . . . by going on Big Brother!

The reality show's newest contestant only learned he'd been picked to go into the Channel 4 show's house on Tuesday night, and he had to make a mad-dash to London hours later.

That meant 22-year-old Liam - a Newcastle United supporter from Lanchester, County Durham - only got the chance to tell his employers when he was on his way to the telly experience of a lifetime.

Liam's proud dad Joseph said: "It's been very hectic. He was up all night washing his clothes and packing.

"He got the 8.01am train to London Kings Cross and texted his boss on the way to the train station.

            Story continues

"Liam works for Olivers Tree Services here in the village and his boss David has been the nicest of the nice about him going on Big Brother . . . he's very fond of Liam.

"I don't follow the programme to be honest, but Liam's watched them all.

"It's the third time he's tried to get on - last time he got right up close before he was eliminated - so I'm really pleased for him, let's hope he does well."

The former St Bede's School pupil, who is single, says he "does all right with the ladies" so he's bound to be a hit with the women in the house.

His keen sense of humour and sharp wit should also keep everyone entertained.

So far, he seems to be enamoured by twins Samantha and Amanda but his dad Joseph, a pigeon fancier who once won £20,000 in an international race, says his favourite lass was Shabnam.

Less than an hour after Liam walked in with fellow newcomers Brain, John, Billi, Shabnam became the first evicted. A staggering 81.4pc of voters wanted her out.

Joseph said: "He's a bit of a charmer with the girls but he never hurts anyone. Liam really is a smashing lad. I know he might sound a bit too perfect but he's the most polite lad and he's very level-headed."

"My other son Dominic, who's 28, sat and watched him go into Big Brother with me and the phone didn't stop ringing all night, with friends calling to congratulate us on him getting in."

He revealed that Liam once tended some of former Newcastle manager Sir Bobby Robson's trees.

Joseph said: "He had a bit chat with Bobby and said he'd talk about anything but football, but Bobby said `I love football, I'll talk to you about football' so they had a good talk.

"I think he may have done Alan Shearer's trees too."

The official Big Brother website says his chain-saw scars "add to his rugged appeal" and that he'll keep housemates laughing.

And the site adds: "But don't tell them about his night-time habit of sucking his thumb."

The keen cricketer, who plays for Lanchester second team, has a rebellious streak.

Three years ago he went for an 11-day holiday from work in Tenerife . . . and stayed six months.

His dad also reckons he can be quite untidy.Joseph, a retired nurse, said: "He's tidy in himself and looks after himself but the others may get annoyed by him leaving clothing lying around."He's a good cook though and can make a good spaghetti bolognese, so that could endear him to them."

The life of a celebrity beckons whether Liam wins or loses, and his family say he'll more than take the glare of publicity in his stride.

Retired nurse Joseph said: "He'll love it."
