        Blackcats - we've had enough

        Blackcats – We’ve Had Enough

We all remember Andy and Korous alongside Siavash Shams mixing traditional Iranian music with Western Pop, and after more than a decade the same damboli, 5-2 beats, “Topoleh man, khoshgeleh man, cherah raftee” lyrics have exceeded their life expectancy in the bootleg market, with countless protégé’s emerging after receiving a green card from the Swiss Embassy in Tehran dealing with US affairs.

No criticism yet because it was all fun doing our ghers and body-pops to the mix of the santoor and base (who can ever forget Sheytoon Bala and Cheekeh-Ckeekeh) in the countless parties from Tajrish to Orange County, of the usual crowd of “Ali parties” and “Nazanin pateeyarehs” with their dyed blond hair, and in the concerts where countless marriage proposals were made in the dance floor in front of Shohreh’s wig and Moein’s sunglasses. We all have cherished memories.

But it all turns sour and depressingly annoying when we’ve got two brothers (a Michael Jackson wannabe with a gender identity crisis, as if the Western-Iranian status wasn’t enough) and a 67 year old pimp cousin of Shahram Shabpareh on our NITV, Iran TV, Tapesh, IPN, Jaam-e-Jam (old skool) “Islamic Regime is evil, oh people of Iran rise from the oppression so in turn we can rule over you”, blaring out lyrics translated from Rap, R’n’B songs and even directly taken from the Beatles, reciting Googoosh, with occasional “Peeshee peeshee meow meows”, “justified” because of the name of their band “Blackcats”. We’re deafened by their poor lyrics, blinded by the light shining off their skin tight PVC trousers, and scratch our faces, asking how can Iranian pop turn so vulgar. Was it the departing of Pyruz (although his “Baby joon, let’s get funky lyrics are no better) or beatings over the head with Shahbal’s plastic tamborine turning the two brother’s Kamran and Hooman more camp, pretentious superstar wannabes. And why is it that Blackcats members are continously dumped and new ones recruited every week, so that on every one their albums there are different faces among the pimp and the two brothers?

By God we’ve had enough. No taarof, really. Let us try and continue to make Los Angeles, Toronto, Paris, London and Dubai a second home. Let the current respectable elder first generation of Iranians continue to struggle to say “where will we wait”, the second young generation Iranians to explain the meanings of “Persian and Iranian” to their newly found friends, and the current flock of new Iranian immigrants tell the immigration officers of their conversion to Christianity, participation in the student demonstrations, and their top secret role in nuclear weapons, in a desperate attempt for life in the West, in peace. Apart from the few screeching 14 year old girls who don’t know better, I’m sorry to say this, you have no fans, no exaggeration. Kamran and Hooman, he may be the “Prince of Asia and the Popfather of Persia to you”, but for most of us, he’s still the 67 year old man who dyes his hair, insults the religion of Zoroastriansm by having a neckchain of Farahvar, and convinces his daughter to write “Oh daddy you are the best, don’t listen to what other people say” on his albums, trying to have a piece of the action under the shadow of his more successful cousin Shahram, and exploitation of a poof and a transvestite. But I’ve got to give to you, your opening song in your concert at London December 1999 of Ricky Martin’s “Livin’ La Vida Loca” was a surprise.

“Peeshee peeshee meow meow?”, no pathetic.

                      salam
I am totally with you, it was very interesting input AryanFire_2004.

We don't have to be an expert to notice that the originality is gone!

It seems some of those new generation 'so called' singers or entertainers are unfortunnatly disillusionnised between the westeren- and good old iranian culture.

I hope the general respect and preservation of original persian values will survive among the new western iranians somehow !!

Black Cats is a bisuness now, Shahba hires singers for 3 years, via contract, then after 3 years its up the singers to decide if they wanna stay with BC or move on to solo artist........ so black cats ( the original idea ) is GONE GONE GONE
