Rock star loses Eurovision dream
Justin Hawkins, the former frontman of glam rock band The Darkness, failed to realise his Eurovision dream last night.
Camp popstars Scooch beat off stiff competition to become Great Britain's Eurovision favourite with an air-steward inspired song called Flying the Flag (For You).
Lowestoft rocker Justin was hot favourite to win the sing-off of six acts and was so unimpressed with the judges' decision he stormed off stage with singing partner Beverlei Brown.
But he can console himself with the fact that he got further than ex-Atomic Kitten Liz McClarnon and fromer East 17 star Brian Harvey who were the first two voted off in a cruel popularity vote.
The BBC1 programme Eurovision: Making Your Mind Up also included competition from hip hop group Big Brovaz and newcomer Cyndi who was just pipped to the post by Scooch.
Justin's Eurovision attempt was his first foray into the musical scene since he quit The Darkness in October last year, blaming a destructive drink and drug addiction that cost him £150,000 in three years and saw him admitted to the Priory clinic for rehab.
Justin and soul singer Beverlei sang They Don't Make 'Em Like They Used To for this year's Eurovision song contest, which will be staged in Finland on May 12 2007.
