one thing you guys have missed in the conversation is that the Danish cartoon is with regard to culture and the Holocaust issue is a dispute of logic and facts. Everyone knows the Holocaust occured, and Ahmadinejad didn't reiterate any denial when asked in the US context. Repeatedly, the issue is how that fact logically should result in the state we call Israel.

Now personally, I believe the state of Israel is justified, if not in its current form. I also agree more or less with the general location. However, that's not the issue either. The issue is poetic justice. There should be more discussion on Israel and Israel's justification, instead of arbitrary oppression and existence which employing the Holocaust argument leads to. Logically, it does not follow that the Holocaust should result in the current state of Israel. Any support for Israel's existence must come from a combination of reasons. Otherwise, someone like Ahmadinejad can say on a point of logic, why not Alaska or something like that. It does not follow that the Holocaust should lead to the current location. Rather, it is a combination of reasons. One of the other reasons is that Jews have been displaced most of their history, while they had a kingdom and home at one time, which is in the current location. This combines with the Holocaust for a better argument.

But these are difficult facts. No one can be expected to automatically understand the complexity of Israel's justification. And generally, real human nature requires discussion for understanding. Discussion is necessary for someone to understand the perspective of Israelis. The fact that Israel and its location and nature isn't being discussed, even if it is fullly justified, is oppressive. This poetic injustice has backfired into a Holocaust cartoon contest.

And no combination of reasons seems to justify Israel's current state of affairs and overtures. That's another injustice that is backfiring.

In short, its a problem of method, not fact, even though we're dealing with facts.

Regarding the Danish issue, they are straight-forwardly and directly being racist and the discussion is far less about logic and facts. The same argument above about poetic injustice does not apply to them and so they are fully unjustified.

I'm just wondering, do you agree with my post?

Iran names winner of Holocaust cartoon contest

Kerrygate won’t last forever so we should start weaning ourselves off. Here’s a little shot of perspective to help us get our bearings. It dovetails nicely with today’s running theme about the uneducated.

                    Your winner:

I called this one, sort of. This was one of two ‘toons that I posted in late August as noteworthy among the several hundred I looked at. I’m surprised it won, though; there’s no vampire with a hook nose biting the neck of any Palestinian children. That’s practically a requirement for this garbage. Maybe they wanted something more, ah, subtle.
Condolences to Marxist degenerate and longtime LGF favorite Carlos Latuff, who took first runner-up. There’s always next year — hopefully: according to the exhibit’s curator, the contest will continue annually “until the destruction of Israel.” Someone should check Ahmadinejad’s calendar.
Elsewhere today, one of the moderate Muslim state’s most eminent clerics called on the west to stop threatening world peace by criticizing Islam.
