The debate is whether this (the manipulation of issues by media) means media should be the priority of focus over religion as a cause to today's problems... When we are talking about solutions... what should we change? And what can we change? I'm saying manipulative media is more important because it determines how radical religion becomes...
well i think that we cannot accuse media of getting the religions radical ...
Religions became radical only becoz some ppl that "clame to be religious" use it only to get power and control...
Most of those individual that clame "islam is the great religion and bla bla" every day on medias...don't know the real mean of islam...(and so the other religions ..i use islam becoz is the nearest example)...and of course they used to be radical and conservative just to attract the masses...and in those countries of the third world...the masses are the poor and ignorant ppl...that aren't rational but very religious....becoz the religion is the only way to have an hope for them...

I see what you're saying... You're saying someone who uses religion wrongly makes religions radical...

But consider the fact that something must have caused that person to start using religion wrongly. Something caused that person to use religions wrongly. What are the causes of this person becoming radical?

In my opinion the media in this issue act as an "amplifier" or a "megaphone"....is the mean that is used to attract the masses...for example Hamas declare that "Islam will conquer the whole world soon" ...5 minute after this declaration, Reuters agency send it to the whole news agency and every of them write the news in the way they want...after the communication of this news will be different reaction between the ppl... the muslim ones could be happy, proud and maybe could concentrate his energy for its religion...the occidental ones could be afraid of this declaration...

So if you mean why a large range of the masses have become so radical...we could give the fault to the media...
but if you mean why some religious leaders have become so radical...i don't think that media is the cause..

I liked the analysis. so what's the cause of religious leaders becoming radical?

I agree; there are many causes, but maybe one main cause or "trigger" that should be targetted.

For finding the answer, the question here is whether Western politics in conjunction with Western media is the trigger and should be the focus for solving such problem of radical leaders; or if we should look at religion itself.

Ofcourse, both... but which more? Which is more to blame scientifically? And which should be more emphasized because the other is already emphasized enough in people's minds?

A balanced and accurate view is the only view towards dialogue, compromise and fast change...

religious leader in itself is something false. there should be no clergy in religion. these people appoint themselves, they are supposedly scholars in their religious field and think they can run a country by mixing themselves in politics, it does not add up. and there lies the root of the problem, by standing behind their holy book, they can justify their actions, making in this case islam look bad by falsifying what is true and what is not to the religion. religion in itself has become a negative force in the world because of everyday people interpreting it wrong and preaching false scriptures, but does that make religion by itself bad and the root of all evil? i don't think so. this makes us come back to the debate of continuously seeing something wrong with islam or any other religion for that matter and making it thus point blank a cancer of a faith, which it isn't. it's like saying, i blame saddam hussein and bin laden for all the terror acts in the world, but we all know who started the fire, so this discussion has essentially no end, its like a chainreaction, its not all one entity. blame individuals not an entire nation or religion, cause that is way 2 generalized.
and as far as the media is concerned, u cannot let urself be spoonfed, u need to track down several other alternative resources of information before you can hold truth to what u hear or see being portrayed by reporters. if u want to know all the different sides of the spectrum, i personally turn to PBS, its neutral, unbiased news, without the wishy washyness of it all, but then again some of us are gonna support the kinda news we wanna hear which does not add up to gainign more knowledge of whats happening around us...

i just wanted to add something to the above...religious leaders are not only self-appointed but also chosen by their own 'clique', but they can in no way replace a prophet, especially when they are preaching things that are not correct and are changing the holy book of the faith in question.

There's one of those PBS shows, some roundtable with the lady host. I thought that was good too. But still... I prefer human interaction and think that is the best way of really learning. We're becoming too dependent on media... I don't understand why people use it so much. I do understand some interesting upsides for finding information. But I don't understand it as a source of developing a world view or psychology/philosophy theory.
