The Austrian government has agreed to introduce new anti-hooligan measures to deal with potential local troublemakers at next year's European Championship finals.

Following a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, the government announced that known hooligans would be told to report to police stations four hours before particular matches in an effort to stop them causing trouble at stadiums.

The new rules, which still need parliamentary approval, were originally criticised by Justice Minister Maria Berger who said the concept of "preventative custody" could violate civil liberties.

Berger said on Wednesday that the phrase had been removed from the government's new wording, which instead calls for past offenders to be lectured on Austrian law during their visit to the police station.

Austria and neighbouring Switzerland are staging the 2008 tournament which runs from June 7-29.

Switzerland has already introduced similar anti-hooligan measures which came into force at the start of this year.

اتحاديه فوتبال اروپا (يوفا) با لغو ديدار مقدماتي يورو ۲۰۰۸تيم*هاي ملي ارمنستان و آذربايجان، به اختلاف آنها بر سر محل برگزاري مسابقه پايان داد.

به گزارش خبرگزاري فرانسه از هلند، اين كشورها كه هر دو در گروه نخست مسابقات مقدماتي يورو ۲۰۰۸قرار دارند، قرار بود روز ۸ سپتامبر در آذربايجان به ميدان بروند و چهار روز بعد در ارمنستان با هم ديدار كنند اما پس از اينكه آذربايجان ميزباني ارمنستان براي مسابقه اول را نپذيرفت، دچار اختلاف شدند.

به نظر مي*رسد دليل اصلي اين اختلاف منطقه "ناگورني كاراباخ" در آذربايجان است كه اكثر جمعيت آن را ارمني*ها تشكيل مي*دهند.

آذربايجان پس از مخالفت با ميزباني ارمنستان پيشنهاد كرد هر دو مسابقه در يك مكان بي*طرف برگزار شوند اما با مخالفت ارمنستان روبه*رو شد.

يوفا يك روز پس از قهرماني هلند در مسابقات فوتبال قهرماني زير ۲۱ سال اروپا به ميزباني همين كشور اعلام كرد، ديدار تيم*هاي آذربايجان و ارمنستان لغو شده است و بر همين اساس دو تيم از شش امتياز احتمالي، هيچ امتيازي به دست نخواهند آورد.

ارمنستان هم اكنون با هفت امتياز در مكان پنجم گروه نخست است در حاليكه آذربايجان با پنج امتياز قعرنشين اين گروه است و تيم لهستان پيش از تيم*هاي پرتغال و صربستان ۱۴امتيازي، با ۱۹امتياز در صدر قرار دارد.

رييس اتحاديه فوتبال اروپا (يوفا) از تصميم اين اتحاديه براي انجام آزمايش خون در جهت تلاش براي مبارزه با دوپينگ در جريان برگزاري مسابقات سال آينده يورو ۲۰۰۸تمجيد كرد.

به گزارش خبرگزاري فرانسه از پاريس، "ميشل پلاتيني" گفت: ما بايد مطمئن شويم كه دوپينگ دنياي فوتبال را لكه*دار نخواهد كرد و اين سلاح ديگري براي تلاش در اين راه است.

وي افزود: فوتبال شهرت بسياري در مبارزه با دوپينگ دارد و اكنون با انجام آزمايش خون در جريان و خارج از مسابقات، گام ديگري براي كنترل اين مسئله بر مي*داريم.

كميته اجرايي يوفا روز شنبه با تصويب اين برنامه ضد دوپينگ اعلام كرد كه علاوه بر آزمايش ادرار براي تشخيص مواد غير مجاز، پس از مسابقات دو بازيكن از هر تيم براي انجام آزمايش خون انتخاب مي*شوند.

مسابقات يورو ۲۰۰۸سال آينده به ميزباني مشترك كشورهاي اتريش و سوييس برگزار خواهد شد.

در حاليكه تنها يك ماه به زمان ديدار تيمهاي ملي فوتبال فرانسه و ايتاليا در مقدماتي يورو ۲۰۰۸باقي مانده است، ادعاي "ريمون دومينيك" سرمربي فرانسه در مورد تباني در فوتبال باعث شده تا تنش موجود بين دو طرف به نقطه جوش خود برسد.

به گزارش خبرگزاريها ، دومينيك طي هفته جاري در مصاحبه با روزنامه فرانسوي " لوپاريسين" به " خريد يك داور " در جريان ديدار تيمهاي زير ۲۱ ساله*هاي فرانسه و ايتاليا در سال ۱۹۹۹اشاره كرد. در آن زمان، دومينيك سرمربي فرانسه بود .

" ميشل پلاتيني " رئيس يوفا روز جمعه از دومينيك هموطن خود خواست براي اثبات ادعاي خود مدرك ارائه دهد يا در غير اين صورت پذيراي مجازاتهاي نهاد حاكم بر فوتبال اروپا عليه خود باشد.

دومينيك در مصاحبه خود به يك زخم تازه ايجاد شده نمك پاشيد و افزود:
" اين من نيستم كه قضاياي داوري را در ايتاليا بوجود آوردم ... تمهيداتي در فوتبال ايتاليا وجود دارد."
روزنامه " ايل كوريرا دلا سرا " پرخواننده*ترين روزنامه ايتاليا با چاپ سرمقاله*اي با عنوان "تشديد تنش" به يك حمله همه جانبه عليه دومنيك دست زد.

اين روزنامه نوشت :" جدال ايتاليا و فرانسه يك ماه زودتر شروع شده است . اين سرمربي فرانسه است كه با عادت بد خود آتش افروزي كرده است." "كوريرا " ضمن تداوم حملات خود عليه دومينيك نوشت :" دومينيك به*طور خفت بار متكبر و زود رنج است و كسي است كه مي*خواهد به هرچيز دلخواه خود دست يابد. و در مورد اين قضيه نيز قصد دارد تنش موجود را به نفع تيمش بالاببرد."
پلاتيني تاكيد كرده كه دومينيك ۵۵ساله ممكن است در صورت عدم اثبات ادعاهاي خود متهم به رفتار غير ورزشي شود.

England manager Steve McClaren will not worry if striker Michael Owen fails to repeat his hat-trick heroics against Germany on Wednesday.

The real target for the Newcastle and former Liverpool star is the 2008 European Championship qualifiers against Israel and Russia next month. The injury-jinxed Owen will play when England squares off against the three-times world champions at Wembley.

No England manager is likely to take a clash with Germany lightly, but McClaren accepts it is a stepping stone to the key Euro 2008 double header in September.

David Beckham's name monopolized McClaren's first 12 months in charge of the national side, but the return of Owen - England's sixth-highest scorer - for the June games with Brazil and Estonia was more important, especially as Manchester United's Wayne Rooney is out for two months with a broken foot.

Michael Owen is a big player for us, McClaren said. When he came back in the summer, he looked really sharp, if anything better than he was before. His enthusiasm, attitude and workrate were first class. Every team needs a genuine world-class goalscorer and we have Michael.

"Tomorrow represents an ideal opportunity to give him minutes on the pitch and get some more match practice under his belt in preparation for when we play Israel and Russia.

It is not difficult to see why Owen will be vital to England's chances of reaching next summer's European Championships.

With 37 goals - 12 short of Sir Bobby Charlton's all-time England record - Owen is responsible for almost 40 percent of the entire output of the 23 players remaining in McClaren's squad now Steven Gerrard, Darren Bent and Andrew Johnson have pulled out.

He is a player I have been looking forward to getting back in the squad because he has such quality, McClaren said. I know he is itching to play at Wembley again and this is an ideal opportunity for him.

Owen could be paired with Newcastle teammate Alan Smith on Wednesday.

The other realistic option is Peter Crouch, even though the Liverpool forward has been restricted to just one start and a brief substitute's appearance by Reds boss Rafael Benitez so far this season.

David Beckham is likely to play at some stage even though his ankle injury appeared to be causing him pain in Los Angeles Galaxy's defeat by the New York Red Bulls at the weekend.

There is no problem with him at the moment, McClaren said.

He has trained and looked very good. I certainly think it is worth him flying over. The fact David was willing to make the trip speaks for itself.

08/09 Group A Qualifier – Portugal - Poland

Saturday 8th September 2007 21:00 (local time) - Da Luz stadium - Lisbon

The flagship match in Saturday’s Group A action brings leaders Poland face-to-face with firm favourites Portugal in Lisbon. The Poles rule the roost despite topping and tailing their nine matches played with defeats. The Biało-czerwoni (The-white-and-red, a.k.a. Orły; The Eagles) started off with a home defeat against Finland, losing 1-3 at home.

This seemed to presage a disastrous campaign for Poland, especially as the follow-up was a disappointing draw against Serbia; also on Polish soil. Nevertheless, Dutch tactician Leo Beenhakker managed to correct the course and since then Poland steamrollered their way past all the other nations in Group A.

The triumphant march came to a surprising end with last matchday’s 1-0 defeat to Armenia, a lone Hamlet Mkhitaryan strike swiping three valuable points away and making the Lisbon date a to-be-or-not-to-be for the leaders. Although they are two points clear of Finland and four above Portugal, the Portuguese have a game in hand.

Beenhakker and his men know that they’ll be making a big step towards Switzerland & Austria if they can swoop into the Benfica (coincidentally also nicknamed The Eagles; As Águias) stadium and make off with all three points. Beenhakker has already had to redefine his call-up list for the Lisbon game and the Finland match that follows.

Jacek Bak and Michal Golinski are both injured and cede their places to Jakub Wawrzyniak and Rafal Murawski. Legia Warsaw defender-cum-midfielder Wawrzyniak replaces Austria Vienna man Bak, but the absence is a blow to the team as Bak is Poland's most experienced defender. Lech Poznan midfielder Murawski steps into Golinski’s shoes.

The good news is that top scorers Euzebiusz Smolarek (Racing Santander; 4 goals scored so far in Euro 2008 qualifiers) and Jacek Krzynowek (VFL Wolfsburg; 3 goals scored so far) are both available for action. Much will be resting on their efficiency in front of goal as the Poles are expected to have limited opportunities in a counter-attacking strategy given the away venue.

08/09 Group A Qualifier – Serbia - Finland

Saturday 8th September 2007 20:15 (local time) - FK Crvena Zvezda – Belgrade

The other group A Match to be played at the weekend takes place in Serbian Capital city Belgrade; more concretely in Crvena Zvezda stadium that is home to Red Star Belgrade. The 55,000 capacity venue is also nicknamed ‘Marakana’ in affectionate homage of Rio de Janeiro’s Maracanã stadium.

Serbia has recently come into focus in two high-profile cases of alleged racism, although neither took place at the Crvena Zvezda stadium. The first was racist chanting at a recent under-21 European Championship match in Holland on June 17th and the other involving Red Star rivals Partizan Belgrade.

A one-year ban from European competition was imposed by UEFA after crowd trouble in a UEFA Cup match at Bosnia's Zrinjski Mostar stadium. ‘Fans’ rioted during the first qualifying round, first leg match at Zrinjski which the Serbian side won 6-1. Thirty-six were injured as rival fans clashed with each other and with riot police.

Hopefully the Saturday match will prove that these were just isolated incidents and no reflection on the good name of Serbian football. The Бели Орлови (White Eagles) are in need of a good showing, not just on the terraces, but on the pitch as well if they want to rekindle their smouldering campaign to make it through to next year’s Finals.

The most recent match was a mini disaster for Clemente and his men, falling unexpectedly to Belgium in a 3-2 match that saw three goals ripple nets in the last twenty minutes. Serbia need to ensure that all three points are kept at home – and also cross their fingers for a Portuguese setback against Poland at da Luz.

If Finland can be beaten then Serbia will pull level on points with the Finns – and still have a game in hand. The picture would be even rosier if Portugal lose or draw with Poland as then Scolari’s hitherto favourites would be leapfrogged and classification would come back into sharp focus as a real possibility.

The call-up list issued by the Spanish tactician has midfielder Zoran Tosic as the only fresh name in the 21-man squad announced by the Serbian football federation in Belgrade. Javier Clemente actually e-mailed the list in after a fall outside his home in Spain’s Basque country led to him being hospitalized after with a punctured lung and four fractured ribs.

Husky-voiced Clemente, famed for his machismo, actually plans to drive from Spain, through France and Italy to Serbia for the match against Finland on Saturday because doctors have banned him from flying due to the punctured lung. The Coach is slated to arrive in Belgrade two days before the match.

Centre-backs Nemanja Vidic (Manchester United) and Mladen Krstajic (Shalke 04) were included in the squad, but both are suspended for the Finland match and will only make an appearance against Portugal next Wednesday. There is, however, two pieces of very good news to balance out the absences of the two stoppers.

Captain Dejan Stankovic (Inter Milan) returns after serving suspension while towering striker and top scorer Nikola Žigic (Valencia) is also back in the squad after suspension and injury sidelined him in the last three qualifiers. Newbie Tosic (Partizan Belgrade) should strengthen the midfield that malfunctioned in Serbia's 3-2 defeat to Belgium.
