Hadi Saei

Hadi Saei wins gold in World Taekwondo Championship
MADRID- Iran Sports Press: Hadi Saei has won the gold medal in light weight category of the 17th men’s World Taekwondo Championships which is currently being held in Madrid, Spain.


Saei who also won gold in 2004 Athens Olympics, managed to beat his Russian opponent 5-3 in the final, to be crowned the 2005 World Champion.


Saei who was suffering from severe pain during the final because of a leg injury, ended the first round 0-0. Saei managed to take a 3-0 lead by the end of the second round, and consolidated his lead in the third round to win 5-3.


Saei beat an opponent from Switzerland in the first round, and then overcame a fighter from South Korea in the quarterfinals in a close fight which ended 9-8. He then beat a Spanish fighter 12-6. In the semifinal Saei overcame an opponent from Japan, after his opponent pulled out of the fight due to injury. Fighters from Venezuela and Japan won the bronze medal in this weight category.


17th men’s World Taekwondo Championship began in Madrid on Tuesday with over 110 fighters participating from all around the world.


Behzad Khodadad and Youef Karami will be in action on Thursday.
