  • Casillas, Van Nistelrooy and Ramos praise victory

The footballers of Real Madrid were very satisfied with the win. "We achieved the turnaround by sweating it out," said the goalkeeper of the Whites, who added in relation to David Beckham, "We're all delighted because it was good for him and for the team."

IKER CASILLAS: “The game got off to a horrible start, but we pulled through and ended up winning by sweating it out. It's a very important victory.”
“Their goal came after a very strange play. The ball did a strange twist. I tried to deflect it but with such bad luck that they headed it in.”
“Losing would have been very, very bad for us. Let's hope we're lucky with tomorrow's results.”
“This game was very special for Beckham. He wanted to prove himself and we're all delighted because it was good for him and for the team.”
“We just want to keep on adding points to our scoreboard.”
VAN NISTELROOY: “It was an important game. We started losing and that made things incredibly hard on us, but the team showed true character.”
“Beckham's goal was key in the comeback. I'm very happy for him because he's in the starting eleven and because he scored such an important goal.”
“We always want to win for the good of the team, of our fans, and also for the coach.”
“Winning is better. Losing is very tough.”

SERGIO RAMOS: “It was a complicated match. We're jumping from joy with the three points. Today, you can't reprehend the players about anything.”
“We're happy for Capello because we trust him and we want him to continue his work here.”
“We played an awesome match. Top level. We have to savour the win and keep on working hard.”

    • Brazil forward Robinho has become the latest Real Madrid player to voice his discontent at his lack of opportunities under coach Fabio Capello.

"Right now I'm not happy because I'm not playing, but I'm going to keep working to change that," Robinho told a news conference on Tuesday.

"I know that he (Capello) doesn't have confidence in my football because I'm not playing and I have to make him change his mind."

Asked whether he would consider leaving the club at the end of the season, he replied: "I don't know. All I know is that with Capello I've been on the bench and if things carry on like that I will have to see what's best for me."

But the 22-year-old, who joined Real from Santos on a five-year contract for a fee of $30 million in Aug 2005, said his case was different from that of Brazil colleague Ronaldo who was forced to leave the club because he did not feature in Capello's plans.

"Ronaldo is the best striker in the world, but he wasn't happy because the coach didn't want him to stay here. I'm younger, I've still got a lot to learn and I've got a future."

      ONE GOAL

Robinho has been in the starting line-up for nine of Real's 22 league games this season and has found the net just once.

Last week Capello backtracked on his pledge not to select David Beckham again following the midfielder's announcement that he would be joining MLS side LA Galaxy at the end of the season.

Striker Antonio Cassano continues to be sidelined, however, after a run-in with Capello earlier in the season.

Robinho backed team mate Fabio Cannavaro's call for the Italy international to be return to the squad.

"Cassano is a great player and person," he said. "I don't like it when I see that my team mates are sad."

Robinho was at the centre of controversy earlier this year when sporting director Predrag Mijatovic hinted that the Brazilian had arrived at a training session smelling of alcohol.

"It wasn't true," said Robinho. "I look after myself off the pitch .... Mijatovic hasn't apologised to me or said anything. I don't like what was said, but it's in the past now."

            • "I dedicate the goal to myself; I never lost hope"

Gonzalo Higuaín was extremely happy to open his scoring sheet in a derby. "Derbies here are similar to the ones in Argentina," said the forward, who also admitted to feeling very comfortable playing as a striker, where Fabio Capello put him after Ruud Van Nistelrooy fell from the squad list. "I knew I would score sooner than later, and it came on such an important day." Higuaín now knows what it's like to put one passed the eternal rival.

“Yes, a very important day. I am very happy that my first goal came in a derby. Unfortunately, we couldn't win.”
“I felt comfortable playing even further in attack. Playing is all that matters.”

“Anxiety hadn't gotten the best of me. I knew I would score sooner than later, and it came on such an important day. I dedicate it to my family and to myself, because I've tried so hard for it. I never lost hope.”

“Derbies here are similar to the ones in Argentina. You have to really give it your all when you aren't playing good football. and that's what we did. People on the street talk about us, but we still have room for improvement.”

“The Champions League took its toll on us. We tried not to think about it in order to play our best football for the full 90 minutes.”
