Barcelona's title challenge suffered another setback on Sunday night as the Catalan giants were beaten, 2-0, at Villarreal.

Robert Pires and Marcos Garcia grabbed the goals for the mid-table hosts against a Barca side which has now won just one of their last nine away games in the Primera Liga.

Frank Rijkaard's men still top the table but their lead has been cut to a solitary point following Sevilla's 4-1 thrashing of struggling Athletic Bilbao.

The reigning UEFA Cup champions stormed to victory on the back of second-half goals from Alexander Kerzhakov, Antonio Puerta, Ernesto Chevanton and Luis Fabiano, who also missed an eighth-minute penalty.

Fran Yeste netted late on for Athletic, who are just two points above the drop zone.

Valencia's win relegated Real Madrid back to third in the standings. Fabio Capello's men had held second spot following their 2-1 win against Valencia on Saturday night - Ruud van Nistelrooy and Sergio Ramos scoring either side of a Fernando Morientes goal.

Real Zaragoza's bid to qualify for next season's Champions League gathered pace thanks to a 2-0 win against Celta Vigo.

Brazilian striker Ewerthon scored both goals to sink Hristo Stoichkov's Celta side, who are now level on points with third-bottom Levante, which was held to a 1-1 draw at home to Getafe.

Mustapha Riga opened the scoring in the fifth minute but David Belenguer levelled for the visitors 12 minutes into the second half.

Real Sociedad's 2-0 win against Atletico Madrid on Saturday night has given them hope of avoiding the drop - they are just three points adrift of safety - but time is running out for rock-bottom Gimnastic.

The Catalan side are now six points shy of the fourth-bottom spot after a 1-0 defeat at Real Mallorca - Victor grabbing the only goal after 21 minutes.

Alberto Lopo grabbed a last-minute winner as Deportivo La Coruna beat Osasuna, 1-0, while there was also late drama in Barcelona as Espanyol fought out a 2-2 draw with Real Betis.

The visitors finished the game with eight men as goalkeeper Pedro Contreras, midfielder Miguel Angel and Brazilian striker Edu were all sent off in the space of a minute as the match ended in controversial fashion.

Espanyol, who played the whole second half with 10 men after Walter Pandiani saw red just before the break, were awarded a dubious late penalty after Contreras was adjudged to have brought down Raul Tamudo.

The Betis keeper was sent off for the foul and was quickly followed down the tunnel by Contreras and Edu, after referee Manuel Angel Perez Lima objected to their furious protests.

Tamudo netted from the spot to deny a Betis side which had led 2-1 after Edu's double had wiped out Espanyol's early advantage, handed to them by Albert Riera.

Sunday's other game saw Recreativo Huelva beat Racing Santander, 4-2.

Valencia closed the gap on La Liga leaders Barcelona to three points after two second-half goals from Joaquin gave them a 2-0 win over Recreativo Huelva.

After dominating the game, Spain winger Joaquin gave Valencia the lead they deserved on the hour mark, coolly finishing after fine work from David Villa.

Three minutes later, Joaquin made the game safe with a superb volley from David Silva's teasing cross.

Atletico Madrid's indifferent home form came back to haunt them as they were held to a goalless draw by lowly Real Betis.

Atletico have regularly dropped points at their Vicente Calderon stadium this season, and the stalemate was the ninth league match they have failed to win at home.

For a side with European aspirations, that is a major concern, and Javier Aguirre's men could now find themselves five points off the Champions League places - and possibly even outside the top six - by the end of the weekend if results go against them.

Betis will be much happier with the point as they fight against the drop, although they had a great chance to win the match in the 86th minute through David Odonkor.

Barcelona, Sevilla and Real Madrid all recorded victories Sunday as the Primera Liga's top three finally displayed some consistency.

The contenders for the Spanish title have all suffered from indifferent form since the winter break but appear to be hitting peak performance at just the right time.

Defending champions Barca continue to lead the way after a 1-0 win against Levante at the Nou Camp. Although they were far from their best, Frank Rijkaard's men did enough to take the points thanks to Samuel Eto'o's 28th-minute goal.

Sevilla are second, a point behind the Catalans, after beating Espanyol 3-1. Juande Ramos' side, who could meet Espanyol in the UEFA Cup final next month, cruised into a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Antonio Puerta and Ernesto Chevanton.

Ferran Coro pulled one back, but the Andalusians sealed it when Jose Luis Marti netted with 15 minutes to go.

Arguably the best performance of the weekend came from Madrid, who won 4-1 at Athletic Bilbao in the evening game.

Fabio Capello's side looked supremely confident in a first half they dominated, going two goals up through Sergio Ramos and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Van Nistelrooy added his second after the break and even though Fernando Llorente pulled one back, Guti's clever finish late on handed the capital club an emphatic victory. They remain a point adrift of Sevilla.

Real Zaragoza could have reclaimed fourth spot but were held to a 2-2 draw at Osasuna. Juanlu and Valmiro Valdo twice put the Pamplona-based side ahead but Zaragoza hit back with goals from Pablo Aimar and Sergio Garcia, the latter coming in the final minute.

Atletico Madrid remain in sixth after a goalless draw at home to Real Betis on Saturday.

Racing Santander remain in UEFA Cup contention despite a goalless stalemate at home to Deportivo La Coruna.

Gimnastic's slide towards the Segunda Division shows no sign of slowing after Villarreal cruised to a 3-0 win in Tarragona.

Diego Forlan scored twice for the visitors with Matias Fernandez adding a third in the final minute. Nastic are six points adrift of safety with six games remaining.

Second-bottom Real Sociedad's hopes of staying in the top flight were hit by a 1-0 defeat at Getafe as defender Alexis scoring the only goal with 19 minutes to go.

Celta Vigo, who are third from bottom, also remain in trouble after a 3-0 defeat at home to Real Mallorca. Juan Arango opened the scoring with Fernando Varela and Maxi Lopez also on target.

Real Madrid is two points behind leaders Barcelona after beating title rivals Sevilla, 3-2, at the Bernabeu.

Madrid was down, 1-0, at halftime after Enzo Maresca gave Sevilla the lead with a fine strike after 42 minutes.

Ruud van Nistelrooy equalized for Madrid after 62 minutes and Brazilian Robinho put them in front with 12 minutes left, but was sent off for his wild celebrations.

Minutes later, Sevilla's Aitor Ocio was also dismissed for an incident in the penalty area, before Van Nistelrooy scored his second goal after 85 minutes.

Ernesto Chevanton made it 3-2 with a free kick late on, but Madrid held on to keep the pressure on Barcelona, who beat struggling Real Sociedad, 2-0, on Saturday.

Goals from Andres Iniesta and Samuel Eto'o gave Barcelona the win, which left Real Sociedad six points adrift of safety.

In the other game on Saturday, Valencia won, 2-1, away at Deportivo to keep alive their faint title hopes.

Hugo Viana gave Valencia the lead after 38 minutes, before Sebastian Taborda equalized after 69 minutes. David Silva's goal four minutes later gave Valencia a win that keeps it in touch with the Primera Liga's top three.

Real Zaragoza stayed in fifth after a 0-0 draw with Racing Santander, while Recreativo missed the chance to move into the UEFA Cup spots by drawing, 0-0, with Athletic Bilbao.

Guillermo Franco scored for for Villareal after 68 minutes for a 1-0 win over Celta Vigo, who stay in the relegation zone, three points adrift of Athletic Bilbao.

Gimnastic is rock bottom after a Cesar Navas own goal after 28 minutes and Mustapha Riga's 48th-minute strike gave Levante a 2-0 win.

Atletico Madrid is in the UEFA Cup spots, despite a 2-1 defeat at Espanyol.

Goals from Moha after 10 minutes and Walter Pandiani after 75 minutes put Espanyol up, 2-0, before Martin Petrov scored for Atletico Madrid in injury time.

Getafe is now only two points behind Atletico in the chase for a UEFA Cup spot, after it won 2-0 at Real Betis.

Daniel Guiza put Getafe ahead after 16 minutes and Francisco Casquero made the points safe in the 34th minute.

Osasuna is still not safe from relegation after losing, 3-1, to Real Mallorca.

Fernando Varela put Real Mallorca up, 1-0, after 37 minutes, only for Raul Garcia to equalize after 60 minutes. Gutierrez Jonas put Mallorca back in front six minutes later and Bosko Jankovic put the game beyond Osasuna nine minutes from time.

Barcelona's grasp on the Primera Liga title weakened on Sunday evening following a 1-1 draw against Real Betis.

Real Madrid took over at the summit on Saturday with a thrilling 4-3 win over Espanyol, with Betis' late rally at the Nou Camp ensured Frank Rijkaard's team would remain second. Ronaldinho put Barca ahead from the spot after three minutes, but fellow Brazilian Rafael Sobis equalised for the Andalusians a minute from time to provoke the fury of the home supporters, many of whom waved white handkerchieves to show their disgust at their team's performance.

There was better news for fourth-spotted Valencia, who virtually guaranteed a Champions League berth with a 2-0 win over Real Zaragoza to stretch their advantage over their fifth-placed opponents to seven points with four games left to play.

Their win was inspired by a virtuoso display by winger David Silva, who scored one and laid the other on a plate for Emiliano Moretti to lift Quique Sanchez Flores' side to within four points of leaders Real Madrid and Barca.

The hosts could even afford the luxury of a missed first-half penalty from David Villa.

Getafe were brought back to earth following their Copa del Rey heroics after suffering a 4-1 home defeat to local rivals Atletico Madrid.

Bernd Schuster's side, who trounced Barca 4-0 on Thursday to overturn a 5-2 first-leg deficit in the cup semi-finals, could not repeat the feat on Sunday as they suffered a rare reverse at their Coliseum Alfonso Perez fortress.

Captain Fernando Torres netted a brace for Atletico, while Maniche and Luciano Galletti - from the penalty spot - also got on the scoresheet for the visitors, who remain in sixth place.

For Getafe, Manu del Moral had reduced the deficit to 2-1 with a goal on the hour mark, but the hosts could make no further inroads as they fell five points adrift of their neighbours in the standings.

Diego Forlan hit a hat-trick as Villarreal continued their late-season push for a European spot with a thumping 4-1 win at Osasuna.

Robert Pires gave the visitors the perfect start with a seventh-minute opener, but Valmiro Valdo levelled 10 minutes later.

Uruguay striker Forlan took centre-stage after the interval, with a brilliant 30-minute treble ensuring Manuel Pellegrini's men took away all three points.

Real Mallorca took advantage of the early dismissal of Pedro Munitis to take all three points at Racing Santander and keep up their superb run of form with a 2-0 win.

Mallorca entered the game with every chance of victory having won four of their last five games to climb to 12th in the table, so they hardly needed a helping hand but got one anyway when Munitis saw red in the 21st minute for a poor tackle on Sergio Ballesteros.

With the extra man, Mallorca grabbed two quick goals early in the second half as Fernando Navarro and Juan Arango scored in the 53rd and 60th minutes respectively. Gimnastic Tarragona look doomed after a 3-1 home defeat at the hands of a Real Sociedad team that could yet make an unlikely escape from relegation.

Early goals from Gaizka Garitano and Savio Bortolini gave Real a 2-0 lead before Javier Portillo reduced the arrears.

However, Jon Ansotegui killed off the Catalans with a second-half goal. Levante took a huge stride towards beating the drop by claiming a vital 2-1 victory at fellow strugglers Celta Vigo to move six points clear of the relegation zone.

Gustavo Reggi fired the visitors ahead from the penalty spot late in the first half, before Mustapha Riga doubled the advantage shortly after the restart.

Fernando Baiano pulled one back for the home team on the hour mark, but it came too little too late as Celta's worries increased.

Athletic Bilbao moved a point closer to survival after a 1-1 draw at home to Deportivo La Coruna.

The Basques went ahead through Ander Murillo early in the second half, but were pegged back by a Riki free-kick eight minutes later and are far from safe from the drop with just four league games remaining.

Sevilla kept up the heat on leading duo Real Madrid and Barcelona and kept their treble hopes alive after leaving it late before overcoming Real Zaragoza, 3-1, on Sunday.

Juande Ramos' side already has the UEFA Cup in the bag and with a Copa del Rey final against Getafe to come at the end of the season can still finish the campaign with three trophies. Luis Fabiano gave the home side the advantage in the first half only for Andres D'Alessandro to equalize direct from a corner.

But Alexander Kerzhakov restored the lead and Frederic Kanoute made up for an earlier penalty miss by adding a third in stoppage time to move Sevilla back to within two points of the top of the table with two matches remaining.

Carlos Diogo was sent off for the second time against Sevilla this season in the dying moments as Zaragoza saw their cushion in the European places cut to just two points.

Athletico Madrid moved to within a point of Zaragoza, with a Fernando Torres brace - one from the penalty spot - giving them a 2-0 win over bottom side Gimnastic de Tarragona, who had Ariza Makukula sent off in injury time.

Gimnastic was relegated before they even kicked-off after Celta Vigo came from behind to claim a crucial 2-1 win over Real Betis which keeps their slim survival hopes alive.

Fernando Baiano netted the winning penalty in the last minute to move Celta to within four points of their opponents and safety.

Gustavo Lopez had earlier canceled out De Pinho Robert's opener for Betis, who had to play the whole of the second half with 10 men after Jesus Capi was shown the red card.

That win means Celta moves level on points with third from bottom Real Sociedad, whose recent run of victories was brought to a halt by Osasuna.

Sociedad had looked to be hitting form just in time to escape the drop after winning their last two matches, but a 2-0 defeat has put relegation firmly back on the agenda.

First-half goals from Moreno David Lopez and Javad Nekounam moved Osasuna onto 43 points, although they stay 14th in the table.

Veteran striker Ismael Urzaiz scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot to give Athletic Bilbao all three points against Real Mallorca, 1-0, and move them four points clear of the drop zone.

Even closer to safety are Levante, whose top-flight status is all but secure after a 3-2 away win over Racing Santander. There is now only one very unlikely scenario which could see Levante go down.

Felix Ettien and a brace from Rahamat Mustapha Riga moved Levante six points clear of the bottom three, while De Carvalho Felipe Melo and Nikola Zigic were on target for Racing, whose UEFA Cup hopes are now over.

Raul Tamudo gave Espanyol a 1-0 win over Recreativo Huelva, who had Juan Merino sent off.

Deportivo Coruna are hoping to recruit former Real Sociedad boss Miguel Angel Lotina to replace Joaquin Caparros as coach, the Primera Liga club's president Augusto Cesar Lendoiro said on Sunday.

"Lotina is the right person for the job because of his team work, for his experience in a club in a similar situation to Deportivo and because he knows how to bring on young players," Lendoiro told reporters.

Lotina, who steered Deportivo's local rivals Celta Vigo into the Champions League in 2003, stepped down as Sociedad coach last week after the Basque side were relegated from the top flight for the first time in 40 years.

Caparros quit as Depor coach after two seasons at the helm, saying he had been worn down by the job. The former Sevilla boss has been linked with the vacant post at Athletic Bilbao.

UEFA Cup holders Sevilla won the King's Cup on Saturday for the fourth time in their history with a 1-0 win over Getafe thanks to a first half goal by Malian striker Frederic Kanoute at Madrid's Bernabeu stadium.

Kanoute, a former Tottenham and West Ham player who has indicated he wants to return to the Premiership, raced across the pitch virtually unchallenged from just inside the Gestafe half and cleared the ball past keeper Luis Garcia in the 11th minute.

He was red carded in the final minutes of the game for retaliating after being fouled.

It is Sevilla's third prize of the 2006-07 season having lifted the UEFA Super Cup and then defending the UEFA Cup and it caps off a good year for the club in the Primera Liga.

Sevilla were on five wins before they dropped points in the league in one draw at Mallorca and a defeat to Villarreal to finish third in the league.

Getafe, who were playing in their first final, were without their first-choice goalkeeper Roberto Abbondanzieri who was away on international duty with Argentina.

The club finished ninth in the standings but have already qualified for the UEFA Cup next term thanks to Sevilla's third-place league finish which gave it a place in the Champions League third qualifying round.

به نقل از سايت اخبار فوتبال جهان، باشگاه سويا اعلام كرد در پي جذب كوين بواتانگ، *عضو تيم هرتابرلين* و تيم ملي زير 21 ساله هاي آلمان است.

براساس اين خبر مذاكرات ميان دو باشگاه سويا و هرتابرلين براي جذب اين بازيكن آغاز شده و پيش بيني مي شود به نتيجه برسد.

بازيكن آلماني در اظهارات خويش از انتقال به فوتبال اسپانيا استقبال كرده است.

اين بازيكن تا سال 2009 با هرتابرلين قرارداد دارد و باشگاه سويا براي جذب وي بايد رقمي بالغ بر 2 تا 3 ميليون يورو هزينه كند.
