        • Striker Didier Drogba scored twice as Chelsea came from behind to beat Arsenal 2-1 in a League Cup final marred by a head injury to England captain John Terry and an ugly late brawl that led to three red cards.

Arsenal's 17-year-old forward Theo Walcott opened the scoring in the 12th minute with his first goal for the club but Drogba levelled seven minutes later and then headed the winner in the 84th minute.

The match was stopped twice though in the second half, with Terry being carried off on a stretcher in a neckbrace after being accidentally kicked in the face and knocked unconscious.

Terry, who was given the all-clear at Cardiff's University Hospital of Wales, returned to the stadium where he joined his team mates in celebrating the victory.

A final which had produced plenty of entertaining football was later marred by a fracas sparked by Arsenal's captain for the day Kolo Toure and Terry's replacement, Nigerian midfielder John Obi Mikel.

Both sides were drawn into the melee, while Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho and Arsenal's Arsene Wenger came on to the pitch to try and calm things down.

Toure, Mikel and Arsenal's Togo substitute Emmanuel Adebayor were all sent off as a result of the scenes, which were a far cry from the vibrant start to the game.

Despite fielding a young side with just two first-team regulars in Toure and Cesc Fabregas, Arsenal made a remarkably assured start and twice threatened to carve Chelsea's defence open before Walcott struck.

An unused member of England's World Cup squad, the teenager latched on to a forward ball from French midfielder Abou Diaby and steered his shot coolly past keeper Petr Cech.

Premier League champions for the past two seasons, Chelsea hardly flinched at the setback and were soon on level terms.

Germany captain Michael Ballack curled a clever pass over the offside trap and Drogba had time to tee up his shot before rifling the ball beneath the advancing keeper Manuel Almunia.

          ADDING BITE

Mourinho, who won his first trophy as Chelsea coach in this competition in 2005, added more incision to his side by replacing French holding midfielder Claude Makelele with Dutch winger Arjen Robben for the second half.

But it was Arsenal who continued to play neat, passing football, creating a few half-chances along the way.

The action stopped when Terry stooped to head a loose ball and took the full force of Diaby's attempted clearance in a sickening clash.

Players of both sides immediately beckoned medical staff and the captain, who looked to have been knocked out cold, was eventually taken off with an oxygen mask and a neck brace.

The final re-started and eventually regained its earlier rhythm with Arsenal being driven forward by teenage midfielders Fabregas and Brazilian Denilson.

But Chelsea were dangerous too as Frank Lampard cracked a dipping shot onto the crossbar with Almunia off his line and beaten.

Drogba then settled it when he rose ahead of Philippe Senderos to meet Robben's pinpoint cross from the left with a glancing header into the bottom corner.

Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko then smashed a shot against the bar before the game turned into chaos with the injury-time brawl.

Lampard praised in-form Drogba, telling Sky Sports: "He's special, he's the best in the world at the moment.

"He does it week in, week out and on the big occasions."

Of the incident at the end he said: "I came in to try to sort it out and ended up getting involved. People might say its disappointing, but when you play a cup final at this level...people moan about people not wanting to win this cup but that shows how much people wanted to win it."

Mourinho said: "We showed character, I don't think we played a great game.

"Arsenal played well, they have a great team and a great coach but football is about winning and the cup belongs to us

"The pity was what happened at the end, I don't know what happened but it was not nice."

          • Chelsea won the League Cup final with a 2-1 victory over Arsenal on Sunday, getting two goals from Didier Drogba and overcoming a frightening head injury to captain John Terry.

Terry, also the captain of the English national team, was taken off the field on a stretcher after Arsenal defender Abou Diaby accidentally kicked him in the head in the 58th minute.

Drogba headed in the winning goal at Millennium Stadium in the 84th minute from a cross from Arjen Robben. He also scored in the 20th, eight minutes after Theo Walcott had given the Gunners a 1-0 lead.

Terry was attempting to head a corner from Robben when Diaby went for the ball with his foot. Terry then fell and appeared unconscious. Players from both teams immediately called for medical assistance.

The Chelsea defender was put on a stretcher with an oxygen mask placed over his mouth and a brace around his head. Play was halted for six minutes before Terry was carried off.

"On the stretcher, I gave him some words, and the way he reacts with his hands, I understood that he was completely conscious," Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said. "He remembers everything in the game. He's fine."

Terry recently recovered from back and calf muscle injuries that sidelined him for 13 games, and then went down with ankle ligament damage in Wednesday's 1-1 Champions League tie at FC Porto.

Walcott gave Arsenal the lead after exchanging passes with Diaby and sending a rising shot into the far corner. Drogba leveled when he took a pass from Michael Ballack and beat Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia.

In the more than 10 minutes of injury time, players on both sides brawled. John Obi Mikel, who replaced Terry, was sent off along with Arsenal defender Kolo Toure. Emmanuel Adebayor was then also sent off before play restarted. Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard and Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas drew yellow cards.

"Maybe it was a consequence of some frustration in the last part of the game and some boys, they lost a little bit their emotion," Mourinho said. "I hope we can forget this incident and we all can focus on the good things of the games."

Arsenal played an inexperienced second team -- with Thierry Henry, Jens Lehmann, Gilberto and Tomas Rosicky not even in the lineup. Chelsea, however, fielded the same lineup that started at FC Porto.

In the Premier League, Wigan improved its chances of avoiding relegation by beating Newcastle 1-0. Matt Taylor scored with a 25-yard free kick after U.S. defender Oguchi Onyewu fouled Leighton Baines in the 40th minute. Twelve minutes earlier, Wigan goalkeeper John Filan saved a penalty kick by Nolberto Solano.

The victory put Wigan at least six points ahead of the three teams in the relegation zone. Wigan has 29 points while Charlton has 23, West Ham has 20 and Watford has 19.

                    • Chelsea stormed back from two goals down to snatch a 3-3 draw against Tottenham Hotspur in an electrifying FA Cup quarter-final at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Blackburn Rovers became the first team into the last four with a 2-0 victory over Manchester City while Watford joined them after beating second division Plymouth Argyle 1-0.

Manchester United and Middlesbrough will also go into the hat for Monday's draw after finishing at 2-2 on Saturday.

Sunday's drama came at Stamford Bridge where strikes by Dimitar Berbatov and Hossam Ghaly and an own goal from Michael Essien gave Tottenham a 3-1 halftime lead as they looked set to end a 17-year wait for a win at Stamford Bridge.

However, Chelsea fought back leaving Spurs wondering how they did not secure a second win of the season over Chelsea after their home Premier League victory before Christmas.

Frank Lampard's second goal after 71 minutes gave the league champions a lifeline and substitute Salomon Kalou volleyed the equaliser four minutes from time to set up a replay on March 19.

Chelsea, still missing skipper John Terry, never got to grips with the attacking trio of Berbatov, Jermain Defoe and Aaron Lennon but displayed trademark stubborness to avoid a first domestic home loss in open play under coach Jose Mourinho.

                      POKED FINISH

Berbatov put Tottenham ahead after five minutes, thrashing a shot into the top right corner after superb link-up play between Lennon and Defoe.

Chelsea responded midway through the half when midfielder Lampard was alert enough to steer Germany captain Michael Ballack's wayward shot into the net from close range.

Essien gifted Tottenham the lead again after 28 minutes when he bundled a low Lennon cross past his own goalkeeper Petr Cech and when Ghaly steamed through a hesitant defence to make it 3-1 after 36 minutes Spurs looked set for the semi-finals.

Early in the second half Lennon and Defoe spurned chances in quick succession to put Tottenham out of sight and the visitors were made to pay the price.

Chelsea gambled on all-out attack and their pressure paid off when Lampard grabbed his second goal when Tottenham failed to deal with a high ball into the box.

With just four minutes left Chelsea striker Didier Drogba won a header on the edge of the area and substitute Salomon Kalou smashed a first-time volley past Spurs keeper Radek Cerny.

Both sides went for the victory in a pulsating finale with first Defoe rattling the bar with a ferocious shot and then Andriy Shevchenko almost sealing it for the hosts.

"The players' mentality was very, very good," Mourinho told the BBC. "We were almost out of the FA Cup when we were two goals down but at the end we are still in the competition."

Spurs boss Martin Jol added: "I knew if we got the fourth goal it would have been all over and we could have done that."

Goals in each half from Aaron Mokoena and Matt Derbyshire saw Blackburn beat Manchester City. It was a day of mixed fortunes for South African Mokoena who was sent off after the break for a second booking.

Watford, who reached the final in 1984 and last made the semis four years ago, edged past plucky Plymouth thanks to a first-half goal from French striker Hameur Bouazza.

                          • Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho has denied swearing at match referee Mike Riley in their 3-3 FA Cup quarter-final draw with Tottenham Hotspur. Mourinho had an exchange with Riley at halftime in Sunday's game, with his team trailing 3-1, and was also shown on television appearing to use a Portuguese swear word during the second half.

"I approached him at halftime, in a polite way, and told him what I thought," he told reporters. "But I think it worked in another way because the second half was worse than the first half.

"We were both polite and there was no confrontation."

Mourinho was unhappy with Riley's refereeing of what was a thrilling tie at Stamford Bridge, believing too many first-half decisions had gone against the Premier League champions.

"I'm not saying it had a big influence on the result, not big decisions, but too many free kicks and big frustration for the players and it breaks the intensity of the game and we are not happy."

As for using the swear word, Mourinho said: "If you listen to me speaking, I tell these kinds of words 10 times in every 15 words.

"I tell this to myself when I am not happy with something, I tell it to my players, I tell it when the ball hits the post. I can be emotional but polite.

"But I don't want to be offensive with anyone."

Spurs manager Martin Jol also said he was unhappy with aspects of Riley's performances especially the bookings handed to Young-pyo Lee and Paul Stalteri.

"I don't get on with Riley so will have to leave it," he said.

"I told him not to be influenced by the crowd at half-time but he gave two bookings straight away. I don't complain about referees though, its an awful job."

The replay will be held at White Hart Lane on March 19.
