Doha Asian Games Organising Committee (DAGOC) announced that the first wave of Doha 2006 ticket sales, which elicited good worldwide response, will end on Thursday 14 September.
The 15th Asian Games ticketing sales will now include the final competition schedule based on the team draws which took place in Doha on 7 September. To allow the system’s update, no ticket sales will be transacted through any Doha outlets or through the ticketing website for a period of nine days beginning 15 September.
In addition, the organisers will proceed with assigning seats for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. An exact seat location will be assigned for all Ceremony Tickets purchased by September 14.
Prices for tickets range from QAR5 to QAR20 for sports events, QAR500 for the Opening Ceremony and QAR150 for the Closing Ceremony.
All ticket outlets will be closed between 15 September and 23 September with the exception of the following locations: City Centre Cinema 3rd floor; Q-Post General Post Office Building, Corniche, and in the Official Doha 2006 Merchandising Outlets in Landmark Mall, Hyatt Plaza, and City Centre (1st floor).
These outlets will be open to provide information and customer assistance through the entire period, excluding 16 September.
With the re-opening of the second wave of ticket sales on Sunday 24 September, all sessions, including team sport preliminaries, will be on sale. Moreover, the sales will be on a real time basis with tickets sold, printed and handed out to the customers directly at the outlets. Sales will be based on the tickets’ availability, updated in real time.
“There was a global update of tickets launched in the first wave and I’m very glad for the good response we received from the local public and the Asian nations,” said Hala Ramzy, Director of Marketing and Public Relations, DAGOC. “We consciously priced the tickets reasonably, to ensure that everyone becomes part of this glorious legacy which will ensure sporting posterity to Doha and beyond”.
“Now that the team sport tickets are available, spectators can see when their country and nation is competing” she added.
Over 550,000 tickets were released in the first wave of sales on 28 May.
Sixty-eight percent of customers placed their orders through the 11 Ticket Sales Outlets and the Mobile Ticket Kiosks in Qatar, while 32 percent preferred to purchase their tickets through the internet on www.doha-2006.com. Ninety-one percent of the sales have been placed from purchasers in Qatar.
The top five most popular sessions (according to tickets sold in the first wave) include Multi Sport events at Aspire, and Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex. The Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Football, Athletics and Aquatics have attracted the majority of customers.
