Barry Gibb buys Johnny Cash's Tennessee home

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Reuters) - Barry Gibb of the 1970s pop group the Bee Gees has bought the Tennessee lakeside house of the late Johnny and June Carter Cash, an estate trustee said on Thursday.

The purchase price was not announced. Originally the property was listed at $2.9 million and it later dropped to $2.5 million.

In a news release, estate trustee Robert Sullivan quoted Gibb as saying, "This place will always be the spiritual home for the Cashes. My wife, Linda, and I are determined to preserve it to honor their memory. We fell in love with it. It's an incredible honor for us. We plan to use the home to write songs because of the musical inspiration."

The 18-room house sits on 4.6 acres in Hendersonville near Nashville. The Cashes' son, John Carter Cash, maintains a recording studio a short distance from the property.

Knowles, who maintains multi-year deals with Tommy Hilfiger Toiletries/Estee Lauder (for True Star perfume) and L'Oreal, is expected to launch her own line of cosmetics through L'Oreal this year.

Hilary Swank splits with husband

LOS ANGELES- Two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank and her actor husband Chad Lowe have decided to separate after eight years of marriage, Swank's publicist said on Monday.

"Hilary and Chad have decided to separate but they are hopeful they'll be able to get through this tough time," publicist Troy Nankin said in a statement. He gave no details.

Swank, 31, won her second Oscar last year for playing a feisty female boxer in "Million Dollar Baby."

In an effusive acceptance speech at the 2005 Academy awards ceremony, she thanked Lowe for his support, saying, "Chad, you're my everything."

Swank and Lowe married in September 1997 and have managed to keep their personal life mostly private. Swank came from nowhere to win her first best actress Oscar in 2000 for playing a transgender teen in the independent movie "Boys Don't Cry."

'Baywatch' star Hasselhoff files for divorce

LOS ANGELES - Former "Baywatch" star David Hasselhoff is divorcing wife Pamela Bach after 16 years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences, his publicist said on Thursday.

Hasselhoff, 53, filed for divorce in Los Angeles on Thursday, and the couple have agreed to an amicable settlement, publicist Judy Katz said.

The actor, also known for starring in the TV drama "Knight Rider," has two daughters with Bach.

Bobby Brown: Whitney Divorce Rumors False

Bobby Brown is brushing off reports that he and wife Whitney Houston are headed for divorce court. "The rumors are wrong," Brown told PEOPLE on Thursday. "They're false."

Among several recent reports about the couple, New York's Daily News said the R&B singer, 36, was telling friends that he was planning to divorce Houston, 42. (The Atlanta-area based couple have a daughter, Bobbi Kristina, 12). The Daily News also reported that earlier this month Brown was seen with several women backstage at Connecticut's Foxwoods Casino.



Asked by PEOPLE on Thursday how the story started, Brown replied, "I really couldn't tell you. They say I said something about it, but I joke a lot. ... I don't think I said it, but if I did it was a joke. Trust me. ... It's someone that got the words mixed up."

When Houston heard the story, Brown says, "Oh, she called me! She's calling me on a regular basis like, 'Bobby! Did you say this? Did you say that?'"

Brown describes Houston as "definitely upset." As for himself, he says, "There's no way I can be upset, because I didn't say it and I'm not trying to divorce her, and that's the most important thing.

Redford turns attention to his own career

PARK CITY, Utah (Hollywood Reporter) - It's back to the future for Robert Redford. For, to cite another movie, he's going back to being the Sundance Kid once again. With the Sundance Institute celebrating its 25th year and the Sundance Festival in its 20th year, Redford feels that the maturation both have experienced should allow him to shift his own personal priorities.

With a bursting enthusiasm that is not outdone by any of the legions of young filmmakers at the film festival, Redford said Friday that he plans to re-energize his own career. After giving so much to new filmmakers, Redford is bursting to find and develop his own projects and, most assuredly, to direct them.

While many of the young filmmakers at this year's Sundance have likely never seen "Ordinary People," and, if they have, would change the title to make it more reality-show friendly, Redford feels that the Sundance Institute and the festival in a sense are now mature adults. Like a good, proud parent, he feels confident enough about them to refocus on his own career.

"I feel that basically where I am now is that I put a lot of energy and time into supporting the festival activities that required my personal presence," he said. "Now, Sundance has its own identity, and I can return wholeheartedly to the passions that inspired me to develop Sundance in the first place," Redford said.

Trump sues Warner Books, author over new book

NEW YORK- Real estate mogul and TV star Donald Trump on Tuesday said he had sued Warner Books and author Timothy O'Brien for what he claimed were defamatory statements in O'Brien's book "TrumpNation: The Art of Being the Donald."

Trump said the suit, filed in state court in New Jersey, seeks $5 billion in compensatory and punitive damages from Warner and O'Brien, a reporter for the New York Times.
