fidelity is important because it means that your feelings toward the person prevent you from going for anyone else. You feel you cant have the same feelings for another person, that the love is special enough that it can only pertain to one person.

If there are problems with fidelity, then i truly doubt that your feelings are really strong for the other person. If someone is unfaithful, you drop their sorry behind and leave. There is no reason to wait, give the person another chance, of blame yourself. You obviously loved the person more than they loved you.
