      Its hard for me to belive that hejab still exist in this day and age, what a useless act and a waste of dignity. Hejab is an arabic custome and not a moslem duty, one only need to read the Quran to know that.

        It's actually quite interesting how the hijab or veil came about; it started in europe, and really took off in the greek orthodox community, one can still see some older women wearing it, today particulary in eastern europe, as fashion progressed it changed into hoods and hats. but it was a common practice among church-going women, for example the virgin mary has been depicted as wearing a white veil. baha'is abolished the veil, but staunch muslims are still wearing it, as do nuns in christianty, albeit differently.
