I rememmber when i was about 10 (in tehran) i never always wore roo sari, and one night i was in the car and police maro kesheed kenare khiaboon and had a go at my dad choon ke roo sari saram nabood... i was 10 ! hala agar girls start wearing no hejab in tehran,,, what they gonna do about it ?

the government in iran is animal-like, they can do whatever they want to people without having just cause. I wouldnt try them if i were in iran, and quite frankly i wouldnt put myself in a situation where I would have to worry for my safety. yes, i realize that going with the flow is not right and going against the tide is the only way change will come about.

i think this "brave woman" has probably been arrested afterwards and there is definatly some punishment for her!!
What they do ( the government) is that if anyhting like this happenz , they punish that person and show it to the public saying that if any of u wana do this then u'll get punished like this!! PLUS SOME PEOPLE WOULD RATHER GET ON WITH THEIR LIFE AND STAY AWAY FROM THE TROUBLEZZ!!!

im pretty sure you are right, she probably did get in hot water for what she did. It may have been a gutsy gesture, but it well may have cost her. The Iranian government is well known for taking those who go against them and making them into public lessons. I hope to God that she isnt in some prison cell right now being beaten and tortured.

Your last statement is interesting Sepideh joon: you say some would like to stay away from trouble and get on with their lives. Ye moshkeli ke ma irooniha darim ine ke hambastegi nadarim and we dont back eachother up. See, if one person does something like this, then its easy to punish that one person and silence her. If an entire nation does something like this, it becomes impossible to silence an entire nation. Like i said before, if i was in iran i probably would not get involved so i dont want you to think i am one of those bold ppl. all i am saying is that since we are not in iran and we arent doing anything that is "gutsy" ourselves (i wont use brave because we all seem to have different definitions of brave) then in my personal opinion we are not in a position to look down at what she has done. she made the choice to do what she did and obviously she knew the consequences of what she was getting herself into.

when someone does something out of the norm, people usually look at the person as being crazy! it depends on what society is viewing and evaluating the act. In an american society, what she did would be the equivalent to feminists burning bras in the 50's and many saw that as crazy, now we look back and say wow good job feminists for standing up for what you believed in. being an african american who was bussed to a white school may have been seen as crazy because who in their right mind would want to be called names, beaten, spit at, and disrespected because of race, but now we look back and commend african americans for standing up for their rights as humans. what i am trying to say here is that just because she did something out of what we see as normal doesnt make her crazy, we may look back in 20 years and commend her for what she did because it led to the beginning of something that becomes normal.
