Foster's Flightplan tops US chart

Jodie Foster's new thriller Flightplan has flown to the top of the North American box office chart.

The movie, in which Foster stars as a mother who loses her child on an aeroplane, was estimated to have taken $24.65m (£13.89m) on its first weekend.

Tim Burton's Corpse Bride jumped from 23rd to second place, with last week's number one Just Like Heaven in third.

The weekend's top 12 films took an estimated $89m (£50m) in the US, a 51% rise over the same period last year.

It also represented a 26% rise compared to last weekend, US box office tracker Exhibitor Relations said, continuing an upward trend in ticket sales after a disappointing summer.

Burton's animated musical Corpse Bride, which features the voices of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, jumped up the chart on its first week of nationwide release.

Roll Bounce, a 1970s roller skate movie starring rapper Bow Wow, made its debut in fourth place.

Flightplan (2005)

Flying at 40,000 feet in a cavernous, state-of-the-art E-474 aircraft, Kyle Pratt (Foster) faces every mother's worst nightmare when her six-year-old daughter Julia vanishes without a trace mid-flight from Berlin to New York. Already emotionally devastated by the unexpected death of her husband, Kyle desperately struggles to prove her sanity to the disbelieving flight crew and passengers while facing the very real possibility that she may be losing her mind. While neither the plane's Captain Rich (Sean Bean), nor Air Marshal Gene Carson (Peter Sarsgaard) want to doubt the bereaved widow, all evidence indicates that her daughter was never on board resulting in paranoia and doubt among the passengers and crew of the plane. Finding herself desperately alone, Kyle can only rely on her own wits to solve the mystery and save her daughter.

كمپانى Color of paradise كه پخش كننده فيلم هاى مايكل مور همچون ,بولينگ براى كلمباين, و ,فارنهايت ۱۱/۹, در سطح آمريكاى شمالى بوده است قصد دارد فيلم,گيلانه, ساخته رخشان بنى اعتماد را براى اكران در آمريكاى شمالى خريدارى كند. احتمالاً اكران ,گيلانه, در پاييز ۲۰۰۵ در برخى سينما هاى آمريكاى شمالى آغاز مى شود. اين فيلم پيش از اين به عنوان فيلم افتتاحيه جشنواره تورنتو پخش شده بود و به گفته بنى اعتماد حضور جشنواره اى آن همچنان ادامه خواهد داشت.
